For all the non musicians, this is not nonsense. This is the root of what's been wrong with popular music for a long time, and it just took recent events to make John finally let go of it. Artists are supposed to try to push the boundaries of what is new and what is acceptable. They're not supposed to worry about what people will think of them while they are creating. This is why songs became musical selfies. I almost want to go hear his "antagonizing" record now.

this dude has come a long way, but still aims at the horizon. really…be honest. did anyone ever imagine that the voice singing, “your body is a wonderland, ” on the pop FM station would be playing Jerry’s licks and singing Jerry’s parts in 2023 alongside Bobby, Mickey & Bill?…even Mayer playing with Oteil would’ve been hard to imagine. he’s on an epic path. I was not a fan, until I saw him jam with Trucks & Frusciante, so this is all new to me

It might not stand up to be timeless, but it was great at the time.

All the non musicians just exposing themselves as being simple minded because they can't grasp this basic concept of music.

Everything has gotten so uniformed and canned and processed that he's wanting artists to do what they want and be antagonizing, be different, flip the scales, try something new, and push it and stand by it. This is EXACTLY what Avenged Sevenfold did with their latest album.

I couldn't agree more with him, we need more variety and limit pushing than everyone playing it safe and sticking to the status quo
