Old fart here. I envy you younger players so much. I could have only dreamed of this kind of instruction when I first picked up a guitar over 30 years ago. Pre-internet, pre-smart phone, pre-youtube. All we had were limited Mel Bay books and anyone who knew a little more than you was willing to teach you. I can't wait to see what the newer generation of players brings us.

man, the edit with examples, quotes, the diagrams... your content is extremely well thought and really a fuel for reflecting about guitar for guitarists at any level. Thank you!

These are all the things that John Mayer's teacher Tomo Fujita teaches. It's nice to see them all laid out like this, its a great lesson for opening up ideas.

60 years old and getting back into guitar after a 5 year hiatus. You really inspired me with your ability to combine John Mayer's advice and your take on it. And singing the scale is truly a game changer so thanks!!!

Alvin Lee; ie., “No Limit” this is such a key to the guitar treasure I have only begun to explore and I will be implementing these treasures from now onwards in my guitar journey. I feel wealthy in a single lick of this, let alone… thank you 🙏 for this treasure map 📜 ❌Marks the Spot!

This is a excellent lesson every guitar player who is serious about competently expressing themselves needs to master. This is by far one of the most important lessons for not only guitar players but for anyone serious about being the best musician they can possibly be…

Exactly my kind of learning, thank you very much. Can’t imagine the amount of work you have to put in for this approach of teaching, but it’s what I need to move forward!

Decade long rocksmith player here. Your Fretlive takes over where rocksmith lacks, especially in terms of lessons and the blues. RS is great for sight reading and following. Your fretlive is great for understanding, thanks Gary!

I LOVE this! Confirms just how simple it can be once your hand-eye coordination of the scales are established- then a simple hummed melodic expression is more than possible it can become second nature, no thought... just feel.
Love it they do they love it 😀

man you make a a wonderful job. i think most people can't play because they think too much to root notes and not on the tensions ones. people are scared to hold notes

I started getting into Hendrix 2 years back, and after listening to him I noticed he played a lot of scat or he sang in unison with his guitar, and that had me wondering if this was a part of his brilliance... alongside his technical skills of course.

I could be wrong, but I concluded the difference between a legend like Jimi and the rest of us, is that he could imagine (or experience) the music before he played it... where as we play within a framework that fits with the music, and although we improvise, we typically play one note at a time - in the moment, in other words, we basically 'wing it' while playing our way through the song.

I never really explored the idea further, but after seeing this video with more examples of legends, and seeing they all do the same thing... they literally play what they have in mind, as opposed to playing along to music with learned scales and licks, hoping it sounds good etc.

And although this connection wasn't fully made in this video... it was more about the feel etc... I think this could be one of the most important guitar/music lessons you will ever encounter.

From this point on, I will make it my mission to master this and encourage my brain to think of music, then level up my guitar skills to the point that I can PLAY WHAT I THINK... which in my opinion is the definition of a guitar maestro.

Really cool channel! Just subscribed!

Witam serdecznie. . Pozdrawiam serdecznie z Polski. Dariusz Koss.
