Star Citizen: Planning for the 3.17.2 Wipe

The 3.17.2 Wipe will be unique in that it is the first time that CIG will wipe only part of the database. Also it is a wipe that will happen at a time of huge new content being available. Both affect your pre-and-post release plans.

Up until ~2 years ago every quarterly patch had a full wipe. I am used to it and have a couple start-up patterns I use to build up operating money.

I have a few tips to add especially for people with minimal starting ships/gear:
Use ship rentals to get better ships sooner for faster mission grinding to re-buy your dreamboats or making cargo seed investment capital faster. Your starting money can rent something like an Avenger titan for 24 hours for 15k aUEC and enough left over to pay your certification license fees if needed if you started with nothing and no rep. A cutlass Black and ROC is just a couple box missions on top of starting money or a prospector if you are a miner instead.

Don't buy FPS gear right away unless you must. Stuff is just laying around for free in moon outpost buildings(multitool, consumables, commons), security post Kareah(rare weapons and some armor), bunker missions(some of all), Orison siege event starting platform(med/heavy armor only usually). There is more loot than patience to haul it all for now so don't waste time hauling too much. Take the best stuff and skip the commons to quickly move on to the next money making mission.

Don't buy separate food and water. Buy smoothies in NB commons or the mall on Orison. Certain smoothies restore nutrition and hydration both at the same time(read their 'more info' for the various effects). It's a 2-for-one item to save money and pocket space.

The safe Outposts have loot boxes with a lot of common consumables, ammo, multitools and parts in the buildings no one goes in unless they have box missions. On MT in the temperate forests and around river look in broken tree stumps sticking up. Sometimes there is an edible fungus called 'Heart of the Wood' that heals 50% health and is handy for when medpens are overkill like stubbing your toe on the ramp of you ship lol.

Definitely setting my home spawn location to Microtech after the wipe. I had it set to Orision for invictus.. and regret that climb from atmo every time.

I hardly ever go to Microtech, spending most of my time in Crusader. The river was not enough inducement for me to travel there but the Reclaimer outpost will certainly force me to visit. Another good video mate.

I love Microtech. There is a pad next to the Commons I like to land at and you can see your ship from the walkway to the bar area. I think it adds to the immersion when you can see others come and go.

I agree that it is good to have a plan when starting up after a wipe like this. I like to do missions with guns and armor so I can get some cash and some free good that I will use as I play. Typically, the first ship I buy is one that I will use a LOT. My purchased ships are the Defender, Mercury, and the Black. The Back and the Defender are great for Bunker and 890j type missions and bounties. If I feel like some light trading once a get a few coins, I can use the Mercury. That being said, the C8x or the Titan are my next ships. The 300 series are also great as well as you can access the ships inventory from the drop-down cargo deck.
