The other day Massive Entertainment, the developers behind The Division 2 issued a statement regarding a recent exploit in their game and took action against players using the exploit. Today we give our thoughts on this controversy.

This isn't the first time The Division 2 has done this... there used to be an exploit where you could become invincible go in the DZ, kill everyone & be unkillable. There was one where you could glitch a boss to repeatedly kill him and get infinite exotic drops.... People got banned/suspensions & roll backs etc. Anyways, this isn't new for D2 and the player-base know it. I don't play it now but its been their policy on how they address things.

I'm a Division 2 player. I have about 2500 SHD level with like 2000 hours.

The people that were farming this could get up to like 600, 000 SHD level in a week. That translates to unkillable in PvP, and almost unlimited resources in-game because each SHD level also allows you to get in-game resources. So now the people not only have permanent boosts to health, they also have insane resources which directly translates to better gear.

This exploit was far and above better than any exploit ever in Destiny 2. It would be like getting rank 10, 000 for the season, and each rank gave you 25 Legendary shards, and you could use those shards to make your guns do more damage to other players.

Az got a few things wrong in the video.
1. It wasn't a perma ban, it's a 2 week suspension.
2. the timeline wrong. He said "All the exploit in question have been known to the community for weeks" but it was patched on June 20, 3 days after the exploit was known. The issue was fixed in 3 days, not weeks, it's the ban wave that was delayed until now.
Some additional info to explain the scale of the issue:
1. He explained the exploit mechanics but to be clear, the glichers did NOT play the game in any meaningful way, they joined a game session, get XP, leave group then do it all over again. Just joining and leaving all over again.
2. They can earn 200k SHD in a day while a 5-year veteran can get to 10k for the very dedicated players.

3. Infinite SHD levels carries infinite stars during a global event which allows them to buy infinite exotics which can be used to upgrade the guns with 23% more damage, skills with 23% of various stats like skill damage or status effect, armor pieces with 23% more armor. It's not just a health advantage.
4. The dev publicly warned in the previous livestream before this entire debacle that exploiters will get temp bans for exploiting the game.

I don’t think a majority of people realize XP actually has an advantage in The Division giving players benefits in not only PvE but especially PvP. This isn’t a shard farm that doesn’t affect the playability of the game, this is an exploit that gives you an advantage in just about every way in the entire game. I’m not a Ubisoft fan but their decision to rollback and ban players using that exploit is a the right call.

As an active division player I’m happy about the rollbacks and bans. It’s important to understand bands are only going out to people who have had previous suspensions and rollbacks to them. The people getting banned aren’t innocent people who accidentally got caught in an exploit. They are people who used previous exploits like the infinite damage glitch in the dark zone to stomp players.

If you play the game it 100% makes sense why these people got banned or rolled back I literally wasn't allowed to play for a few weeks because of this bug. I had to do darkzone runs to get my gear up but I couldn't do it because of the fact I would try and kill people to grab loot and they would have more health than raid bosses.

people should not be upset about the bans, mainly because they issued a statement weeks ago saying that players will be punished for using the exploit and told players not to do it. So if they chose to still do it even AFTER they were warned not to, then they deserved it.

Massive had a twab like stream where they have repeatedly warned that taking advantage of exploits would result in bans. The community knew, players were talking about taking the 14 day ban but still getting all the rewards because Massive in the past never did rollbacks. Well now that they have started rollbacks all the people that thought they would get away with it this time or again are gonna get screwed as they should. I am still 50/50 on the bans but as someone who does not watch media coverage but also plays the game I knew about it, but I am 100% for all the rollbacks.

I am both a destiny 2 player and devision 2 player to me i think bungie has the right mind set in terms of exploits but i agree with massives actions. When it effects other players greatly then yeah i think its warrented.

They did the right thing because power ACTUALLY means something here n people use exploits to screwed other players in pvp n it's not just some of the division players that are happy with this decision, it's everyone including 85% of the internet that supports this decision but the people that us exploits to screwed people over like Gladd & Tom Warner

7:28 Gladd'a quote not only didn't age well at all, but his ban didn't kill Anthem, Anthem died because it's was garbage n everyone made division 2 a successful. I know I remember how it went when Anthem was released 4 years ago

After the Andrew Finch fiasco, harsh punishments were giving to anyone that dare try to swat a person forever and 98% of swatting cases died in a heartbeat that u never ANYTHING related to swatting at all.

I do play Div2 on PS5 and PC (no cross save, so yes I run 2 high level characters) and I am overjoyed for this ban and I say that as someone who rarely plays PVP in Div2.. I've played this game since lauch and my 1500ish SHD level (on both accounts) was farmed almost exclusively solo and 100% legit.

If this game had zero PVP I suppose i could look the other way, especially as it is 4 years old. But it does have PVP and us fans voiced our opinion loudly that we wanted more content (in leiu of a D3) as the game was supposed to not get any more content updated over a year ago!!! Here we are headed into year 5 of the game, with new seasons, battle pass and new modes. This being the case I feel as though the bans/rollbacks are warrented for the overall health of the game.

It doesn't matter if the exploit was known. If you knew a cash machine was chucking a thousand bucks if you punched in 0000, even if the bank was aware of the exploit, it would still be stealing.
If you leave your keys in the car and someone takes it, it's still stealing.
So even if the company knew of the exploits, the terms and conditions still apply.

I just want to add Cross, that they warned that this would be the case months ago with the Faye Lau exploit. It's also against the ToS to knowingly engage in exploits.
And many will say "Bro it's just an EXP grind"
I have 500+ hours in Div2, nothing super hardcore but lots of time and i'm at SHD level 300ish.
How is it fair some shitter in PvP with a 2000-6000 SHD level from the exploit get to walk on me, or even all the PvE content with exploited 5M healthpoints?

This video PERFECTLY explains my position on this controversy! Just by capping the shd levels and health alone would fix the issue. Banning will hurt the community and catch bystanders as collateral. Focus on the actual exploiters, cap the levels/health, and patch the farming method.
