ELECTRIC SHOCK RISK 🔌⚠

Universal socket outlets are dangerous when you use them with European-style plugs. As you see in this video extract, it is possible to make contact with live parts.

That's why "schuko" is in a recess, the plug will cover the hole before the pins make contact.

Welcome to the US plug standards as well!

Just to clarify, this plug is meant to be plugged into a recessed socket outlet, thats why there is no sleeves.

We have those plugs in Sweden but our outlets are different to not make that possible.

if you use the eu standard only socket this wont work.

The plug basically goes into a small hole making this implossible

What’s the level of shock here. I touched my plug this way in plugging my computer charger and I got shocked for three seconds couldn’t move and some how I let go.. my whole body was tingling or worst for maybe a hour or more.. my arm felt SO WEIRD… like tingles but time 100 and I felt weird. I’m in USA

In Australia our plug pins have an insulation coating on them so you can't get shocked.

If you care about electrical safety - it's generally recognised the UK "Type G" socket is the best. Not normal in the US, but they're able to handle more current, have fuses built in early, offer strain relief, earth pin, and even protection on the plugs against such issues.

The whole story about "don't chain connect your extension cables because it's a fire risk" thing that Americans have to deal with - yeah - not a thing in the UK. The fuse on the plug of the first extension will blow before it's a fire risk.

Oh yes a European plug going into a non-european socket. Excuse me while I complain about the UK sockets by pushing a bit of wood into the earth while we hammer nails in the live and neutral. Ooh why don't we say we are surprised that we can use any electrical screw driver from the kitchen drawer to unscrew the socket and shock a small child's finger. I'm really surprised an electrical parts distributor does not know this improper match.

Outlets where those plugs are actually used are shielded from sides so you actually can't touch the prongs my guy

Why I love the recessed European Plug.
But the round contacts have less actual contact surface than the british square contacts I think.
But for anything above 15 Amps continuous you should use CEE anyways.

Usually plugs in Eu have contact just at the tip rest is plastic. And sockets have protective sleeve built in them

US plug is the best because you can feel something cool, when you touch the pin.

Here in Argentina we use two types of plug. The one from Brazil, like the one in the video but with 1cm of plastic covering pin shaft but without ground pin and not recessed

The other, most common is the Australian one. Only one way to connect and mostly with ground pin, all of them without plastic cover for the pin shaft and not recessed also
220v here, but nearly all homes have a 30mA differential breaker installed

8/10 cost/function/size/stiffness
2/10 safety

That's a European plug, but not a European outlet. Those are not suppost to be together. The European plug goes “into” the outlet, so u can not get your fingers in between. The outlet seems UK and if so, the UK plug has built-in protective features.

Its that shitty outlet, not plug proublem. Outlet should have edges to prevent that. In Finland you cant even buy those type outlets.

Don’t keep any appliances plugged in and get the plastic plug protectors so your children can’t stick anything in the receptacle. Bam! Simple solution.

For unground high ampre appliances, check out TIS 166-2549 it comes with two 4.8mm prongs, it can withstand up to 15a and insulated like Europlug.

in romania we have deeper plug sockets, than it's extremly hard, really impossible to do this

That's why there's no thing like a safe universal socket.
Every system has it's own safety strategy.
Combining sizes will defeat the safety features.
