MAY SAVE YOUR LIFE: If your caught (as so often happens on TV like CHiPs etc) where your standing in a puddle with live wires...
Stand with yout feet touching, or stand on one foot. What kills you is the power flowing through your body... and the only way it can do this is for a potential power difference between 2 contact points (your feet).
The closer they are, the less difference in voltage potential between the 2 points.
In theory, you could stand on one foot and hop out of danger as you would be like a bird on a power line... the power has nowhere to flow through you to another point.

In this video... Usually poles are the best grounded point so voltage would rather travel through the pole to the ground than through the boy... but if the wire is not touching the pole with any unshielded wire, then the pole is "safe" but touching the wire is now the most dangerous as the power will travel through YOU to ground.

Basically.. If you haven't already died... Stay where you are until the power can be turned off... If your in a car... you are safe.. until you touch any metal trying to exit the car.
If wires come down on top of your car. DO NOT GET OUT.
If someone has been electrocuted.. DON"T TOUCH THEM.. They may still be completing a circuit and you may get a shock even touching them with a stick (if it's conductive, like damp).
