You are not just “some dude”, You are brilliant and assimilating the research and calling on your own practical experience to know what actually works. I’m so grateful for you sharing your knowledge and experience with those of us who are on their health journey.

I just have to say this in your newest video so hopefully you will see it Thomas.
I found your videos a little over 3 weeks ago looking through YouTube in hopes of finding something to help my fatigue stemming from RA. I started fasting and didn't follow a strict diet or a strict schedule for my fasting. I did, however, cut my portions down and starting eating "less" carbs.

I put your methodology to use but tweeked it to my own needs. I did a mix of 16/8 and 20/4 fasting and switched up times every day. I also did 2 48 hour fasts in about 2 weeks time. In that 2 weeks I went from 225 lbs to 205 lbs and decided to take a week break. I didn't think I would maintain my weight, but I did.

Rheumatoid Arthritis kept me from closing my fists and several joints were constantly stiff or in pain when moving with a much lower range of motion than previously. Cutting out certain foods a d fasting has help my RA soooo much along with medications. I can go without my medication on longer fasting days and have 80% or more range of motion. I can now focus on my life and my children and wanted to say thank you for nerding out on fasting and relaying that I fo to us.

Now I am starting back again on another 2 week fasting "routine" and adding exercise during this fasting set.

That analogy was so good that it makes me think you worked in the trades at one point in your life, Thomas. Thanks for being so thorough in your videos they are great!

Hi Thomas, please don't change anything about the way you deliver the important information you provide to your viewers. Your passion for fitness, nutrition, and research has led you to become an expert. There will always be someone who will not be happy with the information you deliver or how you deliver it, please don't let that discourage you!

The longevity topic is interesting and this is a fine and balanced video-- but at the end of the day, father time remains undefeated and everyone dies eventually; I'll keep an interested ear out on the research, but will prioritize what's healthy, strong and fulfilling in the moment (prioritizing protein) and let the chips fall where they may. I've gotten away from the idea that the one that lives the longest wins; the trick is being as healthy, vibrant and fulfilled as possible while alive, I've come to find. That said, a lot of what you're touching on falls into this. Keeping energy intake under control, giving your body a break from eating regularly, etc...feel like they tick both sides of that equation. It's also probably not a simple one-size-fits-all situation. It's pretty incredible how people's mileage can vary.

My 27 year old hamster only eats flaming hot Cheetos and he looks fantastic.

Just kidding. Great information as always Thomas.

Very good explanation. What I see confirms my thoughts on how we humans evolved with a varied, seasonal, circadian, fasting food intake. Mix it up, keep moving, sleep well, get hermetic stressors, and have a good social network.
Keep up the good work. I’m so glad you love to do the research, and put it together so well.👍

Eat when hungry.
Sleep when tired.
We really really need to overthink all this and make as complicated as conceivably possible!!
Or just do what our grandparents aunts and uncles did, that lived to 95-100

Very important statement. We shouldn’t be absolutists. Be prepared to change things up throughout your life as conditions change.

Your talk reinforced my own experience on pure carnivore. I 'm not bloated as with carbs but my body seems to hold fluid because of the products of metabolism or incomplete metabolism. Weight loss is elusive.
Your talk reminded me of a time when I was satisfied and lost weight easily. I making Chinese style stir fries for breakfast, meat and veggies, and a small salad for lunch. The meat potions in oriental cooking are far smaller. Get out the soy sauce! Thanks for the info.

I've seen obese people live to their nineties and I've seen fit athletes die on a soccer field at 28.... Something tells me this whole fitness shit has nothing to do with life.

Normally I agree with a lot of your analysis but I’m having a hard time getting behind this one. One of the best markers of longevity in human studies is grip strength and time up and go. Both of which are associated with having higher muscle mass. The vast majority of Americans are not getting enough protein and suggesting we restrict protein is probably not a good message for the vast majority of people. Also using a mice model for these studies is probably not very translatable. They have fundamentally different diets than us evolutionarily and although these studies are interesting probably don’t translate all that well.
That being said I appreciate that since your interview with lane Norton you’ve been taking a more nuanced approach and acknowledging the limitations. Just think this video is missing the forest for the trees.

Is there a Methionine counterbalance? ie Taking too much zinc causes a copper deficiency. Could there be something that could trigger a Methionine deficiency?

This video is excellent ....it's quite hard for me to get this important kind of info out to people re: the need to balance protein, fats and carbs for health and lifespan purposes, but your analogies make it easier and love all your molecular medicine

The answer is feast and fast. You get the autophagy when you fast; you get HGH when you fast; you get zero protein when you fast; you get high protein when you feast on meat.

PS: Longevity is also associated with muscle mass. It's probably also matter of not becoming the incredible hulk.

I’m going to have to listen to this again. I’m a bit confused a lot a couple things. I love your videos. I learn so much.
