First of all it should be EXSI, vcenter and then vSphere... There is still a lot of confusion in the newbies and you as a supposed teacher should know how to phrase things. Vmware is good for small to mid size data centers. But if you are going for bigger scale then KVM and xen architecture is the way to go. Not forgetting if you are doing a proper way of implementation then you need to know NSX also!!! So if someone is an MS shop and they are tending to SMB to mid size I don't think vmware is the way to go. But a big size business who is not running vmware will be mind blowing for me... But at the end of the day its all on the needs of the Company or corporation. Funny you talked about hypervisor but not hyper-V or even xen from citrix or open source one but not forgetting the biggest one KVM from Red Hat. Just to give you a background you know that is what AWS runs at the backend!
