I don’t have a travel card yet, but I know that I can redeem Chase points for Avios if I get the Sapphire Preferred. If I do 2 round trip flights with a checked bag, I can use my chase points to cover flights, and the AAdvantage card pays for itself by doing nothing.

Does the explorer card award 2x miles/$1 for hotels booked thru United’s Hotels booking portal or only if reservations are booked directly with the hotel as stated in their program terms?
