They are from Korea as Japan invaded and annexed Korea in 1910, several years before the trees came to DC in 1912. Mobs of angry Americans called to destroy the trees during WW2 until they were reminded that the trees were from Korea by representatives of those opposing Japan’s unlawful occupation of the Korean peninsula and America’s acquiescence.
