📜 Lyrics

Harpy Hare
Where have you buried all your children?
Tell me so I say

Harpy Hare
Where have you buried all your children?
Tell me so I say

All the arrows that you've stolen
Split in half, now bum and broken
Like your heart that was so eager to be hid

You can't keep them all caged
They will fight and run away
Mother, tell me so I say

Harpy Hare
Where have you buried all your children?
Tell me so I say

Harpy Hare
Where have you buried all your children?
Tell me so I say

Forest walls and starry ceilings
Barren curtains that you're weaving
Like the stories that you keep inside your head

She can't keep them all safe
They will die and be afraid
Mother, tell me so I say
(Mother, tell me so I say)

Harpy Hare
Where have you buried all your children?
Tell me so I say

Harpy Hare
Where have you buried all your children?
Tell me, so I say

Harpy Hare
Where have you buried all your children?
Tell me so I say

Harpy Hare
Where have you buried all your children?
Tell me so I say!
(Tell me so I say!)

She can't keep them all caged
They'll be far and fly away
Mother, tell me you will stay
We'll be far and fly away

🌻 A hat full of thank yous to my wondrous friends, Aishabaodi, Penny, Poi, and Ophelia, for helping me meet my own deadlines. I wouldve died. Perished even. I love you!

You are all very kind and curious, thank you for keeping ear and eye! To those who have just arrived, a small introduction may be best to grant—in exchange for the fondness these fellows have received 🙇🌾

Meadowlark is a field where everything i foster is kept. From each narrative, song, and characters, it is not a place but rather a bridge. A story that tells stories within more. A fairytale! 🐦📖🌾

The current main faces are four older children in a musical ensemble called "The Lark". Their leader, Cole, wears a hare's mask, their stage partner Clémentine with a goat's, Perrine as the moose, and Kingsley representing nature, tree (Can be anything really!) 🐇🐐🫎🌳

The four perform plays in small wooden stages with songs that were once sung by the Harkers

"The Harkers" are a quartet of wandering singers whos purpose is to grant wonder and foretoken. Consisting of the Storyteller, Yarrow (the) Bell-ringer, the Enkindled, and the Croon 🌾🔔🎭🪶

Thank you for listening to Hayfields, it serves as a prelude to Meadowlark as a whole. I cannot wait to tell the rest of the story through song :~)

Those characters have the vibe of someone that will trap you in a fae circle BUT they also have been trapped ages ago and so they keep the cycle going

Cole's voice is SO addicting to me. Especially the "You can't keep them all caged. They will fight and run away. Mother, tell me so i say." part.

Quick note about the song: Rabbits sometimes bury their babies in little underground air pockets to protect them from predators. The song doesn’t necessary mean they are dead.

Edit: Why are ALL my notifications just people replying to this ONE comment? Genuinely asking, not trying to do the annoying edit everyone does. WHY DO SO MANY PEOPLE CARE?!

2:10 gave me chills when their voice got aggressive, I loved that.

I like the details of the characters as they are making the hand gestures, like they are playing a game. Like patty cake, or some other children’s game where you go around a circle singing and clapping.

0:13 I like the attention to detail of showing one of them with their lips perked while the rest had their mouths opened. In the chorus you do hear one going "Ooh Ooh" as the rest were going "Aah aah".

MY DAUGHTER WON’T STOP WATCHING THIS!
She is 6 and a half.
She is constantly getting on my YouTube account and looking up this song.
I’m just … baffled. She has amazing taste but I never thought that she would be so interested in this song.

Great song by the way.

... I just realized... Its a song about overprotective mothers... As mentioned by other commentors, rabbits burry their kids deep in their burrows as a means f protecting them... Like some mothers do when they experienced something traumatic (first hand or second hand). They sometimes even hide truths to prevent their kids from questioning their decisions... Sooner or later those kids will demand the truth and the world "Tell me so I say" and so... Will fly away from the nest so to speak "The cage..." ... And either become harpies themselves or give birth to harpies in the long run, sometimes continuing this cycle of generational trauma... Its a stretch but there are sociological patterns of parenting styles of the helicopter parents post war to laissez-faire parenting (TV education) in the 60s then back again so on so forth as in our period its laissez-faire now with Ipads...

The song already feels so mystical and fairy like, but rhe illustration sells you this idea that you are indeed watching a fairytale unravel
