When should we seek justice, and when should we forgive? A bishop explains.

The classical definition of justice is "to render to each his due."

Along with prudence, fortitude, and temperance, justice is one of the four cardinal virtues that define a good life.

However, if justice is not tempered by mercy, forgiveness, or nonviolence, it becomes a weapon of retribution.

How do you think we should balance justice and forgiveness?

In my opnion, we should balance justice with forgiveness by providing both the victim of injustice and the wrong doer the recovery that they all need.

That is why I prefer the term "Social responsibility" instead of Social Justice

For the first time, I find value in what Bishop Barron said in this video. I am not sure if I can trust the man, but for the first time, I am not sure.

He mixes up the justice with the vengeance. Justice is balanced by the definition.

Meeting violence with violence is not meeting injustice with injustice.

If I’m doing nothing wrong, minding my own business, and someone chooses to attack me, then they should have left me alone.

I wish everyone in the world could be persuaded to be better using non-violent methods, but sadly, a lot of them can’t. MLK was successful because his non-violent campaign made the police look bad and thus got the public on his side. Some bad people don’t care about that. There are people who just enjoy victimising others for their own amusement and forgiveness and mercy really don’t work.

Exactly what the church wants. Less justice and accountability for wrongdoings and more room for silence

Not really a fan of religious nonsense, but I agree with him on this. People can be so vengeful and spiteful towards others. A lot of the time for silly stuff.

This talk sums up perfectly my problem with SJWs, wokeness and cancel culture. They think they're compassionate and empathetic, but they're really not.

Why is it on the victims to provide mercy and forgiveness? When the perpetrators does nothing to right their wrongs?

Some people confuse justice with validation and acknowledgement. In regards to colonialism, it would be practically impossible to pay back everything to the descendants of the colonised. In such a case, what many people ask is simply acknowledgment, learning, and responsibility for the acts.

I appreciate what you're trying to bring to the table...but at the same time coming from an organization that has dodged accountability for the most grievance offenses, abuse of children, genocide, torture, etc. for centuries, maybe this is something you all should have considered along time ago. Vicarious Redemption. Knew that was nonsense when I was a child. Thank you for your post.

Great video, justice is needed to right wrongs. Mercy and forgiveness is needed to cause change in the heart of the evil doer, making him do good.

If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, ‘Love your neighbour as yourself, ’ you are doing right.
Because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment.
(James 2:8‭, ‬13)

Why should ANYONE take advice on justice from someone that is a part of the Catholic Church?

Justice is meant to liberate the evil person, not destroy them. -

Balance: Every single Priest need to do jail time in a regular prison.

Justice: Two 9mm

“Este es el cordero De Dios” by Juan Pablo Barrientos…. Get the details, this book will give you balance.

If the people of Ukraine had used non-violent methods to resist the Russian army, they would now be under the jackboot of a fascist regime. In such such circumstances violent resistance is clearly justified.
