There is a easier fix for the sound, go to the audio settings on Steam VR in the headset and turn the audio to Headset, a lot of people would have this on Manual

Can get same loading times if you use Oculus-VR-Dash-Manager
. It basically kills Oculus Dash so it loads straight into SteamVR without the overhead. Works very well. I find the Steam Link is too buggy at the moment. Look forward to the future with it tho.

this is sick. im often too lazy to do the few extra steps if i only have a few minutes of free time to jump in vr and end up playing a quest game instead

It will be a long time before it approaches the level of polish that Virtual Desktop has. That audio issue is something Virtual Desktop fixed years ago. Airlink still has it. I have manually change audio source in Airlink every time. Virtual Desktop is the GOAT. Worth the price paid many times over.

Quest 3 quickly becoming the clear choice. Xbox game pass will be cool as well. I only wish Xbox would fully go into VR and team with Meta where we can plug into console and play VR updated games like starfield!

I didn’t hear about this! Just tried it for an hour and it seemed to work great for me. I’ve never tried VD but this worked better than my typical airlink set up for sure.

This was my observation on steam link: For me at least, it worked better than air link or virtual desktop on the quest 3 (virtual desktop pretty much always worked reliably on quest 2, air link was hit and miss, but cable/rift mode always worked). What really surprised me though was: I was resigned to having to do an upgrade to wifi 6e to get decent wireless performance. From what I've seen so far with steam link, I probably don't need to bother with the upgrade. Interestingly I notice you initialise dead centre in the steam grid, that never happened with airlink. It didn't work properly with Polybius and I haven't tried Skyrim yet, but its looking pretty cool otherwise.

I owned the Oculus, Win Mix Reality, HTC Vive, than Index. All have trade offs. Truly get the best experience, you need a room like you have. Non reflective walls and surfaces, no obstructions, no windows if possible. more you have of that the more tracking degrades regardless of how expensive your VR system is.

A fantastic move by steam gives us all more flexibility to access our games on VR, ONE small thing that would be REALLY fantastic is to link Quest 3 to a SteamDeck do you think that is in the pipeline? I do hope so. Either way this is a step in the right direction - Well done Steam and Meta

My steam vr won’t work when I get into gtag through steam vr with the oculus app it crashes and it won’t start up btw I have a quest 3

After the pc and headset are connected, do you have to have the game installed in your library or can you have it so it only installs on your headset? For example, I'm wanting to only have my vr games installed on my headset and my pc games only installed on my pc, is this a thing that can happen?

I'm trying to go on steam vr, and every time i open it, it gets interrupted by showing me a notification about turning on mixed reality objects even though I have already done that. How do I get it to stop happening? Do not disturb won't work, I've already tried it

Can you go out of your home network like traditional steam link?
If yes than I agree amazing improvement!
If not then it's just a steam alternative to airlink. - Hooray another app and another update.

I just got the Quest 3, swore I would never buy anything facebook, but here we are, and Steam drops this gift on us, and Meta allowed it, yay! So I never tried VD but steam link worked perfectly from day 1 and I now use both the interal VR (because there's a lot of good stuff in Quest) and Steam VR, so nice to have so many choices.

It seems that many people prefer to use Quest system for pcvr because of the lack of wires. Is the quality difference between pcvr through Valve Index much better than Quest3 to make it worth dealing with wires? Input from someone who has tried both would be helpful.
