Those 5 minutes contributed more to my understanding of consciousness, than 4 years of philosophy and psychology in school. 🙂

Bach's argument seems to be the bastard child of magical thinking, specifically, the concept of emergence, and the spiritual perspective on the hard problem of consciousness, to save the computational theory of sentience. Essentially, it pulls the physicists' favorite deus ex machina, emergence, to account for the leap across ontological divides (from physical properties to subjective qualia) without acknowledging consciousness as an inherent property of a metaphysical reality. Instead, it puts up more smoke and mirrors before emergence by placing its magic into the latent space of machine learning, ending up stuck halfway in the incoherent limbo between physicalism and idealism.

Until comes something better: consciousness remains a thing that has nothing to do with computation, and personal consciousness a pretend play inside the mind of God.
