The Royal Wedding - Jerusalem (HD) (29 April 2011)

Uploading this as the moment was inspiring even to this American! Besides, the BBC's coverage lacked the camera shots of the pride-filled English crowds outside -- and if you ask me, that was the true high point of it.

Jerusalem by William Blake and Charles H. H. Parry as performed at the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton

NOTE: It seems all American viewers were fed mono audio of the occasion. (Hello, 1951?!) But you can see this same moment in glorious STEREO here:
... albeit without the cutaway American viewers saw to the crowds outside.

We are Americans living in London and my wife went down to the Mall that morning. The sound from the Abbey was being broadcast outside. She said that when Jerusalem started, everyone started singing around her -- though American, it gave her a chill down the spine it was so incredible.

The British people have much to be proud of!  As an American who has served in combat theaters with British troops, I can safely say that if I had to go to war again with non-US forces, my first and always choice would be with Her Majesty's Armed Forces!  You guys are the best!

This was/is a stunning piece of TV history. It makes the hair on the back of my neck stands up and I'm scottish. It's just bursting with patriotism. There can't be an Englishman alive who didn't feel 20 feet tall during this part of the service. God Bless William and Catherine.

I love this song. I'm not English. I'm Canadian, but it's such a beautiful song, and this orchestration was gorgeous.

We sang this great Anthem 70 years ago in the newly formed Australian boys choir after WW2 in the City Hall Hobart Tasmania Australia to a vast audience. May the UK and all her commonwealth countries reign forever. God Save our Queen.

My husband and I were on the Mall for that wonderful day, and to hear everybody all singing along to this beautiful hymn made me feel so proud. And still, upon watching and listening to it again, it still leaves me with goosebumps and the feeling of being immensely proud.

I love this hymn. I consider myself an American Englishman. The primary source of my culture, the source of my language and most of the values with which I was shaped. I am proud of England, of my language, the traditions that have come down to me from that source. England forever.

As an American, watching this I'm so impressed with the beauty and solemnity. It reminds me of the glory days of Britain's long Empire. Is the royal family and its exquisite ceremony and pageantry all that is left of it? Although we had to break away, we took with us your rich expressive language, your free spirit and your laws. Three cheers for William, Kate and the British, and the composers of this beautiful British music!

Every true Englishmen will pick this song for national anthem of England. It's the unofficial national anthem but that's not good enough!

I'm an American who found this to be the most touching moment of the wedding. To see all those British outside the Abbey, singing this beautiful hymn (long one of my favorites) and waving their flags, made me wish for just a moment that my ancestors had stayed in England. If I'd been British, then no matter what I thought of the monarchy, I think watching this might have moved me to tears.

Never forget being in a Dorset church about 20 or so years ago, packed to the rafters and I was severely hungover. Everyone who was in there it seemed belted this out and made my head ring with pure emotion. Very moving.

A great video -- the true anthem of this extraordinary nation. Everyone who lives in freedom today owes a great debt to the British people. But for the steadfastness of England in the early days of World War II, democracy would have perished in Europe and perhaps in the rest of the world. As an American, I can only be grateful that so many fought so valiantly and selflessly. This rendition, with crowds on the sidewalks, gave me goosebumps.
