What term should we be using for this phenomenon where we are seeing more muscle growth training with tension at longer muscle lengths if it's not stretch-mediated hypertrophy? Lengthened-mediated hypertrophy?

Also, isn't the biceps short head still lengthened/stretched in a preacher curl since it's not impacted by shoulder angle so could it still not be stretch-mediated hypertrophy we are seeing? Or was biceps growth measured in the long head in that study comparing preacher to incline curls?

Or even, since there isn't any shoulder movement during a preacher curl, could the long head still be getting stretched somewhat anyway?

Ah, my hypothesis may be relevant!
I reckon preacher curls are actually a lengthened biased shortened partial. Both heads of the biceps are biarticular (cross two joints, the elbow and shoulder) and you're in a degree of shoulder flexion throughout, therefore biceps are shortened relative to a standard curl. In a simple model, where shoulder flexion and elbow extension remain equal and the forearm remains parallel to the floor, the biceps would remain at a constant length. However, shoulder flexion shortens the biceps less than the same angle of elbow extension lengthens it... so, at the angle of greatest resistance (forearm parallel to the floor) the bicep is more lengthened than in a preacher over a standard curl despite being relatively shortened through RoM.
:. Shortened partial, lengthened bias.
Ok, it's only kind of relevant, but still... I haven't had a real Dr comment on it.

On second thought...
Shoulder extension doesn't lengthen the bicep much.
So, during an incline curl, at the angle of greatest resistance, the biceps would be less lengthened than in a preacher curl.
:. Overall lengthened RoM, but less lengthened bias relative to PC.

Mind = blown.

Doug Brignole could've teach you both in this one...
standard standing curls with dumbbells or a barbell are the best because youre stronger and strongest! in this position more than preacher or incline curl.

The video is confusing: Menos' voice is sped up plus we are given a quick succession of words to read plus we have to listen to both of you.

I think they are both beneficial due to the different degree of the humerus. In one position it is in front of the body, in the other it is being pulled behind. Both positions are being worked with optimal stretch, and recruit a different stimulus in the given position. Just incorporate a variety grip like a neutral grip that effects more of the brachialis for a well rounded upper arm..

That study didnt even reqch statisticql significqnce and was extremely flawed, using it as an argument shows the lack of scientific of those who promote it imo

I only have dumbbells and a barbell in a home gym, I do incline curls on a low incline. I hold my elbows up as if it was a preacher but with them still behind my body, I understand that once the dumbbells get too heavy this will not be a viable position, but so far I don't seem to be limited by anything other than my biceps. Is this a viable option for a stretch? I feel it a lot more than just letting my arms loose behind my body.

Hey Dr Wolf, do you pause at the bottom of your “powerlifting” movements like you do your “bodybuilding” ones in your powerbuilding routine?

I think what has happened is stretch mediated hypertrophy and exercises where the resistance curve is highest under the stretched part of the ROM have been conflated in the discourse, despite the two being different things

DB incline curls put you in a weakened position.
I've also found having my elbows in front of my body allow for a far better weighted stretched position.
For a bicep movement for where it crosses the shoulder joint you'd be far better doing chin ups

What kind of lengthened partial should we aim for??

So what caused more hypertrophy in the preacher curl then ???

The longer form video was great. I think Menno was mostly correct but his confusion over calling lengthened muscle weight training as "stretch meditated hypertrophy" was wrong. Hopefully, we will see people conflating these terms less as time goes by.
