They should have named that rock "Jabba" since people thought it was a hut.

The light illuminating the inside of SpaceX cryogenic tanks is called a "Photon Blaster" in the parts diagrams. It is also mounted outside the tank along with a camera, and both look through a pressure window.

Wasn't at all excited for the 'hut'
Knew it was a rock from the get go.

Very very glad to hear JWST is going flawlessly!

They put a fairly long post on the JWST blog about cameras and why they didn't put them on it. TLDR: they considered several options for putting engineering cameras on the telescope, but all were rejected because the data that they needed to monitor deployment were better collected with other sensor types. "Better" in this case meaning the best balance of risk vs reward and cost vs benefit.

The latest starlink launch was very visible right after launch in Australia. Many people were freaking out due to the solid line of lights in the sky. Was amusing to see the burst of posts on social media 😅

3:50 Yes, the Space Shuttle and X-37 are also hypersonic maneuverable vehicles.

January 8, 2022 at 1:17 p.m. EST, NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope completed all of its large-scale deployments with the extension and latching of its starboard primary mirror wing. Now that the telescope is structurally fully deployed – with the secondary mirror tripod and both primary mirror wings in place – the three-month process of aligning all of Webb’s telescope optics into a precise system can now commence.

Wow! Absaloutly unbelievable, they found a rock on the moon. Shocking to say the least.

Scott I LOVE that your accent always causes the word "explorer" to sound to me like "exploder". Adds an extra spicy interpretation to all of your space mission videos! Eventually we're gonna "explode" the whole solar system. Please don't feel self conscious about it you have a lovely accent and we all know what you mean.

I was very worried - even skeptical- about JWST getting past all of it's 344 single-point-of-failure milestones. But it looks like it's A-OK. (Why doesn't anyone use A-OK any more in the spaceflight context?)

WHAT??? The Mystery Hut is just a rock? Not the entrance to the secret underground Nazi UFO base? I'm shocked.

:-)

"The first piece of consumer electronics above the Van Allen Belt"? BULL cookies! HORSE fritters! There was a Sony TC-80 aboard Apollo 7! Actually there were many music players brought to space during the Apollo missions. So not even CLOSE to being close to being close to the first!

It’s exciting to see Webb progressing so quickly. It’s going to change the way we understand the universe.

Some people are good at putting very good educational space videos and a lot are not, Scott is very good. He gets to the point, provides all useful info, never bored, and for a foreigner he is the best. Thanks Scott

- Alexa, reconnect life support.
- I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that
