I can’t imagine what went through the heads of the staff at Windsor. I call this portrait “Charles III in Hell”. Totally unnecessary to paint anything that looks like this and then make it the official royal portrait. Nobody checked on the work as it progressed?

I don’t know what to make of it…it’s actually a very thought provoking painting, a wistfulness about it. It’s just so NOT what you’d expect of an official portrait. But I rather like that and I’m guessing he must have approved it.

He believes that by making this picture the official picture of him, he has a modern mentality. Well, damn the artists who draw trivial things and call it art. Art is classic realistic painting.
