I feel like the bosses in CD, while being pretty easy overall, are unique to all the others in the series. Instead of it just being a sequence of ‘dodge attack, hit boss, dodge attack, etc:’ here, the main goal isn’t just to damage them during the main phase. (aside from Wacky Workbench, Metallic Madness, and Palmtree Panic.) Rather, Eggman has the upper hand, and it’s mostly you wearing down his defences and then hitting him once he’s at his most vulnerable. I just find the bosses quite unique. And also, don’t even try to tell me that the Metal Sonic Boss isn’t unique. You don’t even hit him, just try to be faster,
