The COOLEST Jazz Lick

This is such a cool jazz lick! You can play it over any minor chord and it has a very jazzy sound. It uses chromatic runs, approach patterns, arpeggios and triplets. I take you through it bit by bit and also show you the notation.

I advise transposing it to several keys in order to internalize it so you can use it in your own playing. I go through it in C minor, G minor and D minor - but you should continue round the circle of fifths and work it out in all 12 keys!

Great jazz lick for soloing!!! This can be used on major chords too. Just alter some of the notes, the flat 3 to a major 3, etc...

This is very clear.. I'm taking this to practice tomorrow. You deserve 100 thousand viewers at least..I will try to share this video. I watched as you described each step of the lick. it was spot on. I thought that's a gminor7. That's what you said. Is this from any song? I've noticed that it's a very common trait of jazz artist like Herbie Hancock to play the minor 7 arpeggios against a related chord.

I just did an enclosure at the end. F E Eb (Db D F G Bb) Just part of the Lester Flatt bluegrass run..in parentheses above. He did it in G.. It came from the E minor blues scale. But in this case..I heard it and the Db is the b3 of Bb..So from the Db went to D F G Bb. Amazing how blues, and jazz fit
into bluegrass and vice versa.
At the end I played a rootless Bb6..in the right hand (D F G Bb)
the just moved the D and F and kept the and Bb. This chord as you know has got a lot of names Db dim 7...all min3s. I hit it twice then
back to the Bb6. Did some improv there. Im sure you know how that all sounds.
