Your first thought is spot on, Dan. I've always been a hunter that's #1.... attempted to notch my tag with a legal animal, period. Whether is a Spike, 3pt min, or Cow. It seems that when you go in with my mindset the pressure of filling that freezer with more "options" than that 6x6 Bull is greater and eases the anxiety/pressure a bit, at least for me.

I agree 100%! Expandable are not meant for elk. You need fixed broadheads. Love the tips, definitely gonna change how I hunt elk.

Expandable broadheads aren't meant for elk... until you book a well known Arizona elk guide and their recommendations list says they "highly recommend" expandable broadheads for elk... and if you show up to camp with fixed heads, you'll be required to shoot them at multiple yardages to prove you can hit your target. If you can't hit the target, you won't go hunting until you get it sorted out.

Yes deff good info thank you. I had my first encounter on a 6x6 at 50 yards. Didn't relise he was there and did a cow call and came right out and looked straight at me. He screamed at me and stood broad side to me for about a minute. Didn't draw cause he was looking at me the whole time. Turned and went straight into the timber. That was the best time I ever had and it was the best success I had elk hunting. Wish I could of drew back and sent one down range. But just that was enough for me to experience that.

Wind wind wind. I go through wind checker quickly in the woods. Just cause the wind is in your face now, doesn’t mean it will be the same 50 yards down the trail. We bumped a couple cows last year. Wind in our face where we were standing. When we got to where they were, the wind was swirling pretty good.

Last year I drew a limited entry archery elk tag in utah after only shooting a bow for 9 months. It was the most successful, fun, and the best learning experience of my whole hunting life! And I didn't kill an elk. I do not regret a thing! I had 6 bulls within bow range and all but one of those elk I just needed another step or to come around a bush. I did pass on one of those and I'm glad I did. It was the first bill we saw, we called him into 18 yards and I let him go, but it was the first weekend and if I would have shot that bull I would have missed out on all the experience I gained over the next 14 days in the field! Best hunt of my life!!! Can't wait for September!!!! 🏹🏹🏹
