What did everyone think of "Dust"?

I liked the moral that this episode preaches: Was the dust REALLY magic after all, or is the human heart much deeper than we give credit for? It's left up to the audience to decide for ourselves.

the thing I like about this particular episode is that this story is the kind of tale that could have actually happened at some point in history, it has all the right elements of a tall tale made even taller down the ages.

I saw this episode as a little kid and wouldn’t watch it again because it made me cry. The father’s acting was so good, and even though it ends on a more heartfelt tone, him pleading for his son’s life while throwing the dust hit me hard. I would have been between 6-10 years old when I watched and it was too much emotion for me to understand and handle.

I disagree on this one; its actually kinda great that a total downer of an episode ends with everyone walking away with a little sunshine in their hearts. Hell even sykes gets to have a chance at redemption instead of getting a reverse uno slapped on him. You said it yourself, this was made to be as sour tasting as it can but in the end gives us a shot of sweetness.

Yeah, gonna completely disagree. I LOVED this episode, even as a kid. Sure, it's slow and doesn't pop with life, but that always struck me as the point. This is a town where it's made VERY clear that it is isolated, cramped, small, and dreary. This is a town going through the motions, hence why they don't seem all that emotional about death and hanging; they NEED to do it because it's what needs to be done. Those small acts of mercy at the end aren't going to change anything much, but it makes a world of difference to people stuck in the middle of nowhere with little to hope for other than getting through another day alive.

I disagree, this is a very heartwarming episode of the Twilight Zone, not all of them have to be thought provoking.

This episode gives me the feels. I wanna cry when the father believes in the magic and runs. The ending gives me hope.

I really like this episode. It has a good hopeful message behind the "Magic Dust."

For me, the episode was about mob mentalities more than anything else, the simple power people can have when they work together on something. Alone one man couldn't do anything to change things, but when the entire group started to think like he did, things changed. 'Magic dust' or not, it was about the power people have when they unite together under one ideal. The rope broke, probably just by chance, and nobody had the heart to bother trying again.

The broken rope signifying the constant sadness of the people has been stopped. There was something happy/magical happened on that day.

The writing was really good. The sheriff was a fabulous actor. Great lines.

Wow. First time I’ve completely disagreed. This episode is phenomenal. It’s understated yet super emotional, with a beautiful message and a great atmosphere. One of the best I’ve seen from the show.

I HEAVILY disagree with you. I believe this is one of the BEST episodes of the twilight zone, maybe not top 20, but this episode has a simple charm to it that just gets you thinking and feeling strange things. It’s special to me, and I’m sure to many others. The emotion in this episode is melancholic, but with a spark of…hope?love? Not sure, but something is BEHIND that melancholy, and THAT just makes me feel that I love this episode.

You did a good narrative explaining it, but you missed the best part at the end where Thomas goes that’s magic. It’s gotta be magic, mocking it in disbelief, laughing

One of the most moving episodes of the Twilight Zone. I'm stunned at your panning of it.

Even if some of the western episodes are only “so-so” I really like them. They’re all so atmospheric and just ooze old western style.

I liked this episode. Emotionally you could feel the theme of this story. The things that the sharif said in some of his lines were impacting .The end of this episode was touching, and thought provoking .

I really liked it, couldn't shake the look on the salesmans face.
Like he was genuinely horrified there for a moment. Because he knew they tested the rope before it was used.

Just the fact that the greedy, easy to hate guy gave the money away at the end makes this episode worth watching.
