I could tell my grandson had autism almost immediately. I kept telling my wife and daughter but nobody believed it. Sure enough it's been confirmed. He's a cool kid. Really funny and fun to be around.

Eyecontact is one of many components to autism. Every autistic child is different. There are autistic people who can maintain eyecontact just fine. There are those who don't. The symptoms themselves are spectrums on their own.
My son has been diagnosed with ASD and has only some trouble maintaining eyecontact, but has never done any stimming that I've observed. No shaking of hands, no rocking on his heels and so on.
The main symptom was his speech delay and inability to cope with change.

Why are people offended by this? Of course children with autism are no less than other children but it's understandable not to WANT child with autism or another disorder. Life is difficult enough as it is. I'm a stutterer, I get on just fine, but I sure as hell wish I was wasn't. Is speech therapy offensive to me? Of course not!

My autistic twin cousins didn't respond to when we called them, or even when we patted their backs to call them. They never responded. It was very wierd to us. After 3-4 years they were diagnosed as autistic

My autistic 29 year old daughter didn't have the same eye contact with us as a baby in comparison to her older sister. This was long before this study. By the time she was two, child care providers were telling me that something was up with her, and by age eight, we were given the diagnosis of Asperger's syndrome.

A child I've taken care of sometimes looks me in my eyes but it's as if she can't see me, as if she has curtains in front of her eyes. I saw she was autistic the moment her parents introduced her to me, but they claimed for two years that she just has speach delay...

Has this method become routine for detecting autism?

This can’t be the only sign because my son lacked eye contact and it turned out he was visually impaired. So there could be baby that are blind or visually impaired and that doesn’t mean they are autistic

I have a toddler who will get examined for autism; aligns toys has speech delay screams and doest like to be touch if he gets irritated. Unfortunately my teenager had all those symptoms and even more when small 😢 . I read that many live undiagnosed which is very catastrophic if only doctors could care about it and take the time to examine better our kids
