Most people cannot afford to own a home. Unfortunately they have been sold the dream.

I feel bad for her. When you look at a house and it has a plank roof, an older foundation and slat plastered walls be ready for disappointment because it's also going to increase the odds that it had old plumbing, electrical issues and inefficient heat and utilities. Another consideration everyone overlooks is the existence of foundation drains. They were not required when most older homes were built therefore Inspectors don't need to point that out. Don't buy older homes like these unless your planning to rehab it yourself or have the money to do so. Could that house be fixed to be great, absolutely. Just don't go buying what you can barely afford and running in to just marry a guy like me who could fix everything for the cost of materials!!
