Nintendo is SHUTTING DOWN the 3DS + Wii U eShops

The Wii U and 3DS eShops are shutting down later this year, which means a bunch of games are going to soon be lost forever... Bad idea...

This also means that dlc for certain games will become unavailable as well, the 3DS Fire Emblem games are a huge example because you can't just get them from the e-shop, you have to progress to a certain point of the game in order to start accessing it. Maybe people wouldn't feel so pressured if Nintendo weren't so frigging stubborn and just remaster those games for the Switch with all dlc included. They promote the heck out of it in Smash, and there's also Fire Emblem Warriors. How are people gonna be fully invested in these characters if Nintendo won't re release their original games? I would understand shutting down the e-shop on old systems if Nintendo would use those servers to improve the Switch's online capabilities. If that's not the reason, then it's no wonder why Iwata's rolling in his grave right now.

While buying the Switch was one of my greatest gaming decision selling my Wii U is turning out to be the worst.

It’s still possible to add funds on Wii U and 3DS since both along with the switch use the same account. You’d just have to add the funds on switch first. So we do have until March of next year to add funds and buy stuff. Still doesn’t make this decision any less stupid though.

The 3DS and Wii U are discontinued now. This is hardly surprising. I knew this would happen with the Switch being the center of attention and the focus for Nintendo right now.

This isn’t a Nintendo problem, it’s a digital game problem. Any digital only store is only going to be here for a limited time because eventually, paying for the service to keep the shop online isn’t worth it to keep it online. Physical media lasts until it degrades, digital lasts until it’s not profitable enough. If it costs 200k a month to maintain, and they’re making 150k a month, they shut it down.

I just don’t understand why Nintendo is doing this. I mean it’s more money in Nintendo’s pockets by keeping it open and what’s more, that it was stated that there was no plans to even bring these games on to the Switch. Maybe if people ban together, just like they did with the ps3 store we can keep it just a bit longer. Some of these games are absolutely hard if not impossible to find in their physical form. So to the people who love games from the 20-teens, let’s try our best to preserve this valuable store era! What do you say?

I have a Wii U because my parents got it for me as a birthday gift couple months before the Switch came out, and even though I definitely sorta wish I got a Switch the following year instead, I still absolutely love my Wii U even though it's very overhated, I love Yoshi's Woolly World and the news that the eShop is shutting down, honestly gives me a huge heartache. It'll be extremely sad that buying things on the eShop will no longer be possible, and I'll definitely try to mod my Wii U as soon as possible. Thank you for sharing this news.

The problem isn’t they shutting down the shop. It’s the games that won’t be available due to this. The retro games being a big problem. There is no reason they shouldn’t sell their games

I really want to backup my games as I don’t want bad things to happen to my games. But I’m not the biggest fan of modding my consoles. Are there any risks to doing just this backup? Like a 360 red ring of death or something like that?
