CANON G620 IN DEPTH REVIEW

After 3 Years of use I am ready to review the G620 printer. Short answer: Yes it's worth buying, BUT it can take a long time to print. Watch the vid and you'll see what I'm talking about!

Very interesting video👍 Regarding the print quality, it would be nice to see a comparison using calibrated profiles. I know the profiles provided with the G620 driver are limited to a few Canon papers so, using a "custom" ICC profile (from Spyder Print for example) on both printer would really show the best of each printers. I also own a G620 and saw quite a difference since I have created my own ICC (paper matching) profiles. That printer's driver doesn't come with the profile for Canon's Pro Platinum, but it gives great results when using the ICC profile I have created. I wonder how the Pro 100 would compare with that pro platinum paper. Also, regarding print size, the Epson ET 8550 (another mega tank) would match the Pro 100. It would also be another interesting printer to test against the Canon Pro printer 😊

Spot on review. Thank you very much. My wife and I was debating between the pro-200 and the g620. I print a lot of 8x10 and 4x6's. But she wants bigger prints. I think I will get the g620 for the smaller prints to save lots of money. Then purchase something else for the larger prints.

Thank you so much for showing us a comparison between the print quality! I actually guessed correctly that the darker one was the Canon Pro-100, it probably has richer blacks and more contrast I'd imagine. I've been debating if the G620 is a good printer if I wanted to start selling prints and stickers, as investing in a more expensive printer without a customer base would be risky for me right now. I had heard that the g620 prints slowly, but 6 minutes was way longer than I anticipated! I would assume the ink savings would probably be worth it though.

I just got a G620 and did a couple test prints; noticed it is printing a little darker than i would like; i use a MAC and not sure how to maybe “brighten” the colors…guess this too will be a learning curve!

I was heavily debating between this and the Epson ET-8550. While the Canon not only costs less but should theoretically provide higher photo quality than the Epson. I settled on the ET-8550 for a number of reasons, but the tipping point was that Canon only has AirPrint support on the Mac, with no real way of using ICC profiles.

Epson makes an ET-18100 similar to the ET-8550 with 6 dye inks, but it's not available in the U.S.

I see you are printing from a Mac. That means you are using an AirPrint driver, since Canon does not make a dedicated print driver for the G620 for Mac. When you showed the two sample prints, I guessed that the darker one was from the G620. With the AirPrint driver, there is no ICC printer profile access, we are at the mercy of the printer's built in profiling. How did you get a better picture from the G620? Did you find a way to work with ICC printer profiles? What software are you printing from? Photoshop? I'm not using Photoshop. I'm currently using Affinity Photo.

I was hoping you'd share what paper works great in the g620? I'm a watercolor artist that wants great prints on the best paper that will fit in the thing. What's your knowledge on that?

Have you used Red River papers on the G620? If so, how did they do? Also, are you printing with Mac or Windows? I’ve heard it’s easier to get profiles on Windows, but a pain in the butt for Mac users. Thanks!

I kind of doubt there would be a loss of image quality using WIFI (I could be wrong). It might be slower to transfer a large image file.
The WiFi connection should be using a protocol that ensures no data transmission errors. My guess is that the printer receives the entire image and then prints it.

Does the prints with G620 fade in a few months? Also do they smudge easily if they come in contact with water?

I just watched your very interesting and thoroughly informative video. It’s timely in that I’m looking to replace my 10 year old Epson WF3640 inkjet printer. I’ve been getting unsatisfactory prints and I’m about ready to buy new expensive ink. I’ve also had issues with with printing to the Epson from my new Mac Studio, and it appears that Macs have issues to Epson printers in general. No problem printing from my iPad or my iPhone, or any PC. So, I’ve taken Epson off my list. I almost bought a Canon G6020 last year when I had to replace a part on my Epson WF, but the price seemed high, but the price has now dropped. I also saw good reviews on the Canon G3270, and have seriously been considering between the two. I also considered a color laser printer, but I have a perfectly good Brother laser printer that I use for most of my printing. So, the reason for me to have a color printer is for printing images and high quality is very important to me. I think that either of the Canons would work for me, but then I discovered the Canon G620 and then your video which pushed me over the buying edge.
