I'm not fond of CVTs...you get all kinds of engine roar, but you just don't feel the "pull" as what you feel with traditional geared (automatic) transmissions. In your test, the transmission held at around 5, 800 rpms for about 4 seconds as you slowly increased from 48 to 60 mph.

Really wish they offered a more powerful option. Really liking this new forester but that weak motor has me looking at other options.

THIS is why I had no problem spending the xtra few thousand dollars getting an Outback XT with the WRX sourced 2.4 turbo four. Never even test drove the 2.5, just assumed it was 1990’s era slow. 😂

That's typical Subaru 2.5 naturally aspirated performance. Doesn't matter what model.
