Is The Stock 2022+ Subaru WRX Fast?!

In this video we talk about whether or not the 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025 Subaru WRX are fast. I now have the perspective after tuning my 2022 Subaru WRX, but also having driven my 2015 Subaru WRX, 2016 Subaru WRX, and a myriad of other sports cars both stock and tuned. I also talk about the fact the 2022 Subaru WRX stock will beat a stock WRX STI almost every time. Hate me, but it's true.

I've committed to keeping my 2024 VB stock but videos like this make it difficult to stay the course

Nice. Love that you went back and forth to compare. I have been tuned since the end of Sept '23 (about 15K miles tuned, 20k total) and still love it every day. There is just something about the driveability and linear power that makes the VB/FA24 so much fun to drive once making some power. It has a small V6 feel to it. FA20 even tuned always felt like a 4 banger all 2.0L. FA24/VB is just a different beast. Anyone who hasn't driven one and is a fan of the WRX really needs to.

I don't usually do tunes or mods on daily driver cars because the stock is literally the manufacturer-recommended settings for optimal power in any environment and if you plan on keeping your car as long as possible then I highly recommend never mod or tune your car. Because if you make more horsepower, you will always need support mods to compensate for the increase in hp. Plus that extra performance will strain the engine and reduce its longevity eventually needing to replace an engine, turbo, or transmission even loss of performance. People who have modded and tuned cars use it as a hobby meaning they have extra cash to burn and are willing to spend compared to people who just want to go A to B.

I had a friend who heavily modified and tuned a car, did the break-in and check period, and one day the engine literally popped a piston or something. He was stranded in the mountain desert with no reception at all so he couldn't get help until a passerby picked him up. Theory crafting of why that happened I just assumed it was due to high elevation and an overheated engine. Because due to high elevation that means there is less oxygen in the air and the car is compensating by working harder sucking in air. We even figured he was also going downhill meaning the engine was overworked and probably misfired due to overcompensating the combustion chamber with the ECU.

It doesn't matter if your tune was done by a professional, all cars have their limits and the tune was literally for your area or racetrack. Not anywhere in the world like the manufacturer designed it from stock. The dude literally bought a new car and only did minor things like spoilers and coil-overs/suspensions, and btw there is no fun in CA even if you just swapped to an open-air intake or modified exhaust/tip if it passed a certain decibel or don't have a code sticker for your aftermarket part you either get a fix-it ticket back to stock and have it inspected at the DMV. If they catch you again, it's a matter of time before you get your license suspended if you rack enough points.

Stock I am faster than most cars on roundabouts so that makes me think stock is fast 😂

I’m installing my intake tomorrow and then have an AP coming Wednesday to start my protune. I pushed the car harder today than usual just to see how fast it was and it was kinda underwhelming. Excited and a little nervous cause it’s a big step for the future of my car

I feel like they came from the factory de-tuned for a reason. Both EPA, and a surprise for tuners. Cvt and manual.
I own the GT, tuned ETS intake @ 19psi. Rips. 0 concerns.

Once you tune the car there is no going back to stock. Also this car is never going fast in a straight line compared to xyz. If you take it to the track you will see the HP is not everything. This thing is a grip monster and in the turns is where you will really see what a beast of a car it is. Most people will never experience this and only repeat what others are saying.

Thoughts on tuning a 2024 VB with a CVT. Probably a good cold air intake and cobb?

If I had 93 octane gas available around me I'd be more interested in changing the tune on my '22. I'm not convinced it's worth doing or possibly even safe for the engine on just 91.
How about some real measurements with your car like 1/4 mile, 0-60, Saying it "feels faster" is hard to quantify.

How would you compare the STI with the VB WRX overall?

if its not 500hp its not fast amd if it doesnt touch entry level fast which today is 1000hp it is not fast we got full blown drag Skylines at 2000hp to 3500hp

Soo you started the video saying your 100hp more than stock while tuned, and can safely hold another 50hp?, numbers aren't crunching for me, we know we don't want to exceed 400tq before shit breaks real quick, I've got quite a bit done and a 93 DMann Tune and I'm not 100hp over stock, please update what you got goin on...I'm a solid 340hp/370tq and couldn't imagine doing anything else without the STI transmission swap

It’s fast enough to pass non sports cars easily

Is it fast? I'd say, yes. I got a '24 WRX with STI short throw. I've heard these are the "best" wrx. If so, I'm glad I dodged every WRX. It's faster than my daily (92 tercel) and is good enough for me. If I want speed, I'll drive the IS F. I beat an r/t on a roll in the WRX. So that was cool. I'll keep this stock until it's paid off. Only 32k$ more to go 😢. I REALLY like the short throw. Hopefully you can continue to inspire in the VB and hopefully you continue more content.
