Text: Edward Mote | Tune: SOLID ROCK

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.

On Christ, the solid rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

When darkness seems to veil His face,
I rest on His unchanging grace;
In every high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil.

Refrain

His oath, His covenant, and blood
Support me in the whelming flood:
When all around my soul gives way,
He then is all my hope and stay.

Refrain

When I shall launch in worlds unseen
O may I then be found in Him,
Clothed in His righteousness alone,
Faultless to stand before His throne.

Rev. 7:9-11 “After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. And they cried out in a loud voice:
‘Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.’ “

Wonderful hymn . As you note,
Words were written in1834 by Edward Mote. He was the pastor of Rehoboth Baptist chapel in Horsham England. The chapel is still there preaching Jesus Christ is Lord.

The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. (Psalms 18:2, ESV)

Amen.

This is sung much slower than in the States. It is a very beautiful almost somber arrangement. Was it originally written like this? I am no expert on British musical style so maybe someone could explain why American congregations sing so differently.

Why is the sound turned down and distorted? On another tack, I had coronovirus and got better, so must have more work to do.
