Over the years I've really come to appreciate the anomaly that Nirvana was in entering extreme pop culture. They were one of the few groups to do largely under their own power and they retained a lot of that artistic power once they got there. The songs were the hardest to write: insanely simple on the surface but done out in a way no one has thought to arrange before or since. Then as it is now, most groups with enough ammo to knock Michael Jackson off the throne would need a much greater industry behind them to do so. By all accounts, Nirvana did it with a comparable skeleton crew of likeminded badasses.

As many of the Nirvana fans know, there was a legal battle over the rights and artistic ideas of the video right before Kurt died. I believe there's a "lot" of great footage of this music video that wasn't used. I think the video was stripped down on purpose by Kurt to avoid the same popular outcome that the smells like teen spirit video got. You have to remember that the band wanted to make the complete opposite of the Never mind album with the In-utero album. Kurt said in a Rolling Stones interview that he had a lot of the final say over the smells like teen spirit video editing which I think the same was with the heart shaped box video also. Crazy day's in the music industry back then!
