I’m American but my girlfriend is from Hong Kong and has been teaching me a bit of Cantonese but I wanted to surprise her by saying “冇辦法用言語嚟形容我對你嘅愛” so thank you! I needed help with the pronunciation

Oh Olivia, when I saw the topic, I didn't expect you taught such long sentences. What I expected are:

1. 我愛你。
2. 我鍾意你。
3. 我冧你。

Aren't they much simpler? :)

Is there a friendly way to say I love you (to a friend for example ) or what you would say to a grandmother

I told my local boyfriend that I watched this video and he said that he'll only spend Valentines day with me if I can ask the question in Cantonese! Now I need to practice :D

I’m a little confused.
My Cantonese isn’t excellent, I was born in Hong Kong, but I grew up in the US. I understand most of the slang, but didn’t learn any formal Cantonese & I can’t read characters.
When you said “you”, why did you use “nei5”?
Is it not pronounced with an “L”?
You: Ley or Lei?
Is “nei” more formal? Ley is lazy? Are they both correct or is Ley wrong?

Last time I went to Hong Kong, everyone found it entertaining to talk to me bc of my American Cantonese accent. They didn’t correct me though. Hopefully I can go back & visit again soon. I miss it there.

Thanks!

How do you say I love you to family members? Like telling mom "I love you." Or ending a letter like "love, your daughter"

How to say I like you instead of I love you in cantonese?
I think love is somewhat too serious.

Thanks but I guess I'll just have to stick to saying I love you in English until I'm reborn in Hong Kong in some other life to cantonese speaking parents. You need to be serious in these situations, you do not want to do comedy and ruin the moment lol.

The last two is what you'd say to your side chick. Lol
