For clearing snow, the best thing to use is a snow brush specifically designed for cars. Search for "car snow brush". They are common here but may be a bit of a specialty in places that don't get a lot of snow. They should have an ice scraper on the other end as well to clear the windows. We keep one in both cars plus one on the porch. That way we don't need to get our hands wet when leaving home.

So easy to listen to your lecture, very calming and care in your tone.

I live in Denmark, but am originally from the UK. My girlfriend and I decided to visit my family for Christmas. We really wanted our dog to come with us, but he’s not allowed on planes.

I wasn’t a confident driver, and was terrified by the prospect of driving us all there. But thanks to your videos I’ve just completed a trip of 700 miles each way, plus a ferry ride (Copenhagen > Rotterdam > Hull). Despite torrential rain on the way there and heavy snow on the way back, we made it home safe and sound.

Thank you for sharing your wisdom and for helping me to become a better, safer driver.

One tip I would add, if you have alloy wheels remove any snow that has piled up inside the wheel. Any snow in the wheels will make them unbalanced and on highway speeds your car would vibrate very intensely (which is annoying and will quicken the wear of your car).

Watching this to give myself some quick little reminders as I’ve got my driving test today in expected snow. I have had a fair bit of experience driving in snow but like to be sure

I find if you press the accelerator down really hard and swing the steering wheel from side to side, it can be really fun.

Also for ice, AutoGlym (I understand it’s a UK firm, I know Ha Ha Brexit) sells a fantastic De-ICER that’s quite popular where I live (Finland). That stuff goes for like € 5, 99 a bottle and easily lasts a winter (or may be even two depending on how much you use it). I just spray it generously on ice, wait for like a minute and use the snow brush or squeegee to get it all off.

I remember skipping this video as I start learning in May and test was in September. Now here I am, start of December trying to pick up safety tips as I've never driven in ice lol

If you drive for a living, I’d definitely consider at least Crosscliamate tyres for winter or for temperatures below 7 degrees. A used set of VW fitment wheels would be very affordable and putting winter boots on those ready for use when required would provide peace of mind when dealing with winter conditions.

I case it's not covered in your follow-up video, please do a video where you describe how to recover from a slide in manual car. One of the scariest things that can happen in winter is when you're driving along, there's snow and ice on the ground, and then your car starts sliding, and you can no longer control it. I recently witnessed an accident where someone tried to slow down for a red light, hit a patch of ice, slid into the intersection, and hit a car. Now, unlike that guy I witnessed, I know how to get back control when an automatic transmission car starts to slide on ice or hard-packed snow. However, I have no clue what to do in a manual car.

If the snow is loose and not compacted if you have one use a leaf blower works a treat. For icy windows use either a kettle of tepid not hot water or fill a zip lock bag with warm water and rub the warm bag on the windows to melt the ice.

I would say the point you made at 9:33 isn’t good winter advice but the reverse is. If you back into your spot, you get the advantages of A) having better visibility for when you drive off in snow and B) it’s much easier to jump start your car if you get a flat battery, with you car pointing towards the road, rather than away from it.
