73 years old, 4, 000 comics collected, not one slab.

I don't read tons of comics but frankly I love your channel because you have a great sense of humor and can admit when you are wrong. I also think you have a real sense of authenticity when it comes to the collecting journey.

I grew up reading silver-age comics. You must remember that the material had to adhere to the Comics Code Authority at the time. (Even though some weird things occasionally occurred.) They were indeed written for children. I do not relate to modern comic books. I do not enjoy reading them. Comics are like music; we mostly appreciate what we grew up with. The opinions on his topic would make an excellent discussion among comic book fans. IMO

I loved reading comics in middle school but took a break for years. Now I’m buying and reading them again due to the new Ultimate Spider-Man series sparking my interest to get back into it.

Collect your way is 💯honest fact. Not every story is for every person. That's part of the journey, finding what you're interests are. Youtube or social media in general is a different beast and finding that audience is a different journey all together. Sometimes it might not have anything to do collecting or the books, just the communication. Cheers to you sir. Keep on trucking.

l definitely agree wit you Goose, I buy my 80s-90s X-Men Spider-Man issues, Even though I would love to own a hulk 181, I don't have the luxury to drop that kind of money on a book. I.
Do feel like there is pressure from the rest of the comic book community to go after these kinds of books or " you arent a real collecter" or " your collection sucks". It is just impossible for me to drop that type of dough. Give me my super cheap x men age of apocalypse issues and I'll be happy

It's all about understanding why you want to collect. In the beginning, I started collected one or two series I liked reading and the occasional key issues. Now, I just collect for cover art.

I love things that show age and use. Tools, clothes, cars, comics, etc… I don’t mind a beat up cover, in fact I prefer it. It has been enjoyed by someone, it has traveled, there is no “perfection” pressure. If the staples are good, I’m good. I liked this video.

How much did it cost you to learn what you like?

Collecting anything is crazy really when you think about it. But I do love my comics and I get a lot of fun from the hobby. I don’t flip or slab or sell, I just buy and read what I enjoy.

I was overwhelmed as a kid trying to start reading comics…. The trick I used was stick with the “S’s”. Superman. Spider-Man and Spawn.

Refreshing! I loved hearing those words spoken out loud.

I can definitely relate to not being able to get into silver age comics. Reading early X-Men, Spider-Man and FF comics for me is extremely painful because of the exposition and constriction to 6 panels on every page, it’s a real slog. I also didn’t grow up with that stuff so maybe that’s why I gravitate toward modern and ultra-modern titles such as SIKTC and TNHOTL.
