Just to add to how unpredictable the playoffs are, the Mavs almost won when they were down 31 at one point… crazy

Jxmy I will never forget the day you said that the Suns would close out the Finals in 2021 when we were up 2-0, nothing has been the same since...

Jimmy's (jinx)predictions in last 4 years:

2021: Suns (lose finals against Bucks)
2022: Celtics (lose finals against Warriors)
2023: Celtics (lose against Heat in conference finals)
2024: Nuggets (lose in 2nd round against Twolves)

It's getting worse

Just gotta remember 1 thing regarding the playoffs in any sport, “That’s why they play the games”. You work with stellar teams with a VERY small number of games compared to the regular season and all it takes is 1 bad run of loses and bam the predicted playoff picture gets lit on fire.

4:00 him posting this after the Clippers lost their 31 point lead and nearly lost the game vs the Mavs is real timely lol.

2:56 this looks like a chess game review graph where you blundered checkmate in one move 🤣

Game designer here. Great vid but what is happening to NBA can't be called rubberbanding. The 3-pts swings can happen equally for both teams, they do not favor the losing team. There is no rule connection between being the losing team and going on a hot streak. If it were rubberbanding we would actually see much more close games. What we actually see is bigger discrepancies caused by teams relying more on a strategy that is higher in risk to reward ratio.

Was not expecting Jimmy to start talking about Mario Kart but its very welcome to stay

It's all about momentum. A #1 seed can fall behind and get dominated, or they could get hot and come back.
It's what makes the games fun to watch, because you don't know who's going to win.

The fact that we love Jimmy goes to show that a good essay is all about presentation. He develops a clear thesis, presents arguments, and provides evidence for each, before pulling it all together with a conclusion. Brilliant.

Today's Fact: In 1997, a man in Colorado was struck by lightning and survived, only to be struck by lightning again six years later and also survive.

My NBA YouTube is two dudes at this point.

1. Jimmy for advanced breakdowns and content
2. GOAT for my weekly recap.

It's literally all you need

Jxmy I've been a subscriber for a minute and this post was by far one of your most interesting and well done. You had me at the graph and classical music interlude. My jaw dropped at the breakdown with the three graphs showing the impact of the 3 pointer on game outcome over the years. Masterful.

I wonder if coaches should be calling quicker timeouts to curtail these scoring outbursts. I remember that was quite common in the past anytime momentum severely shifted.
A stat regarding called timeouts over the years would be interesting.
