Every comment makes sense so far. Home Depot is the only place where customers behave stupidly. You don’t see anyone at Macy’s asking the cosmetic counter for a size seven shoe. Or at the supermarket asking the dairy department if the porterhouse steak is on sale. You use common sense.

My lowes store removed these buttons a while back and emphasized more on department paging via zebra and or overhead directly. Essentially it’s like a “your’re not doing your job notification”

I’d like Home Depot to have these buttons, and they should be voiced by the guy heard on the commercials. Example, the guy should record customer needs assistance in the appliance section. This can be one of the buttons that would be installed in Home Depot.

The reason Home Depot doesn’t have those, is because Home Depot has full time associates in every department. Lowe’s has associates assigned to several departments. Meaning that Home Depot has more employees on the floor, unfortunately customers will drag them out of their departments because they don’t understand the system. At Lowe’s, the same helper who couldn’t help you in one department, will be helping you in another department the next day. Seriously, I once heard a woman asking the guy in the tool corral about a plant, and he left the department and walked to garden with the lady, leaving customers looking for help in the department he needed to be. Any intelligent customer would stay in garden waiting for an associate that knows the department, not go all the way to hardware to ask about a plant. That’s what is wrong with Home Depot, associates have to walk customers to the department and items, not point to the direction.
