The Prelude, Fugue and Allegro BWV 998 by Bach dates from his Leipzig years and was composed around 1735-40. The manuscript is an autograph and the title says: ”Prelude pour la Luth ò Cembal” which can mean a lute or a harpsichord, or a lute-harpsichord (Lautenwerck).
For me this three movement work signifies Christmas, or that Christmas is coming. I have always played this work on Christmas time and now I’m sharing with you the first movement.
