Yes, you play on the HDMI input.
IF your TV has more than one HDMI input, make sure you get the right input
E.g. HDMI 1, HDMI 2, etc

I figured it out. you just use the component setup! But, if you have an old ass tv like mine, you need to buy an a component hdmi m2m adapter so you can plug your elgato "hdmi out" into your tv. I hope this helped! :)

It comes with everything you need to start it.
Two HDMI cables, it's mini-USB to USB, and the software is online

you can remove the component cable's plastic green part with a knife so all you have is the metal part so it wont be so thick

Is your TV selected to the right source/channel input? not sure what else would be the problem.

try checking the analog audio box in the recording software settings, i always have it checked because it records all audio when I use the elgato...

It is supposed to have a slight delay on your computer, but is it lagging on your TV or computer?

would it work to plug a dvi-d to hdmi cable with the dvid part to the tv and the hdmi part to the elgato?

Elgato kinda has 2 settings you can either have component or HDMI you will need to HDMI cables if you want HDMI otherwise you will have to use the component setting. There are tutorials on youtube for that. I used to use component but i bought another HDMI cable and its so much easier.
