What else do you think Malcolm should cover on Diamond in the Rough?

A 2024 Osmosis Jones would absolutely do a better job connecting Frank's past with his current depressive state and poor health. In fact, it's funny you mentioned Cells At Work!, since there was a spin-off, Cells At Work! Code Black, about a man living an incredibly unhealthy lifestyle.

The good thing about this movie is it shows Lawrence Fishburne should have more animated villain roles like in Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur.

Cells at work really is this idea perfected. Inside out, I think, is more an offshoot, same idea applied in a different context.
Congrats on the new show Malcolm

This is such an underrated movie. It's pretty sad it didn't do so good at the box office 😕

The movie at its core is actually very sweet. You have a father clearly struggling to provide for his daughter while also dealing with grief and depression. He wants more than anything to go on her school trip, but he can't because her teacher has a restraining order against him... something that he's kept hidden from his daughter because he's ashamed of it and doesn't want to hurt her. You get the impression as the film goes on that she also doesn't know he was fired from his higher paying job, and that the only job he could get afterwards was as a zookeeper. This man is barely making ends meet and letting himself fall apart in the process, all to give his daughter a happy, healthy, well-adjusted life. If it didn't have all the gross-out shit, it would be a great movie.

Malcolm getting his own show on Channel Awesome is very cool. Osmosis Jones was a unique movie.

I love that Laurence Fishburne played a disease in this movie, then played a doctor at the CDC ten years later in Contagion.

The Walker brothers already said "it wasn't so bad, the animated parts are great and should have been the whole movie with us getting more of the villain, that's why we focused so much on the live action when criticizing it."

Osmosis Jones, the film that scared me as a kid, mainly from the gross live action scenes, and CGI close up shots that look uncanny. But the 2D scenes were fun though.

It's good to see Malcolm championing for forgotten films, there are still good ideas in old movies that shouldn't be lost.

Excellent, good, another edition of this show and no better a subject to put under the microscope than this~
While the live-action bits are a lamentably dated flavor of the times, the merits were spoken to very well in Malcom's insight here. The idea of a psychological 'cop story' going on with a guy in the throes of a mid-life doldrum and a rampant Anthrax infection make for compelling odds, but then you mix the actual details of the bodily systems, behaviors, and biologies into the whole bargain, and you're dealing with some prime cuts of Frank. It's also gotta be said for those who understand the full meaning of the term 'gross anatomy' out there: the human body is *_disgusting!_* You take any amount of time studying the cultures and denatured reactions going on in our bodies, it's enough to make you wanna blow chunks all over Molly Shannon, it is a devastating ideal to embrace.
We're a mess, and so's this guy Frank, and so's this movie.. but that's life!
