Wow! Someone hooked up the stove body to a hot wire lol

Could be a couple things, first the stove is not grounded or the fridge is not grounded. Second a faulty wire somewhere in the stove or fridge which is running current into the case. Third the wiring in the stove or fridge was not done correctly and it has a open circuit. That is super dangerous though, especially with a little one in the house. Hope it gets fixed soon though, I would for sure have a pro look at it. Your appliances may still be under warranty also so the manufacturer or store you bought it from will come fix it. Unless you put it in yourself which in that case you may have violated the warranty.

Unplug both appliances and check the voltage across each of the outlet. I bet you have a problem with the Neutral/Ground on one of those outlets.
Also, replace the outlet with a GFCI.

Check your ground? If the coil is indeed shorting against the chassis or something similar, it should be going to ground and it seems like instead it's going through you to get to the ground in the mini fridge. Just a guess as I'm an amateur electrician, but my guess is that your stove may not be properly grounded.

RFDs have to be installed here in new houses and before you sell an old house.
They cut the power in milliseconds if there is a power leakage (to earth, I think).

Wow and Ouch! If I lived by myself I would might try and find the cause. But since I have a family and a grandaughter, I would Definitely call an electrician and also take lots of pictures of the problem before he repairs it. Than you can write for a refund for the electrician OR (I would) sue and also notify the government for a recall before it kills or hurts someone. God forbid a child!

My fairly new (and very cheap) amana stove has an oven light button in the control panel that gives shocks. Not sure what to do about it. Suggestions?

I feel your pain bro I just got shocked too😂😂😠

You get shocked and the answer is the problem discovered is poor ground?? but the questions remain as to why there was stray electricity where it shouldn't be. Poor insulation, loose connections, wire inside the element touching the element, cracked element, food or something touching a live wire leaking to an ungrounded area, etc, etc ?? This is a video that just stimulates more questions than answers.

Turn off the breaker, unplug the stove and call an electrician. Electrical stuff scares the hell out of me.

There is a ground fault and an electrical short. Normally a short should travel through to ground and either blow a safety breaker (fuse or circuit breaker)(find the one that turns off the stove clock, it should be one of those double breakers). When you have a bad ground, a short will often make appliances do what yours is doing, if that stove is electric, your lucky that it wasn't the full 240v that they use in eStoves, ACs, and eClose dryers. Not an electrician, studied electrical engineering, and with a young one running around, I would trip the breaker and call in an appliance repairman to check the appliance and the receptical and see what's going on.

How do I test like you did? What settings on the meter?

I have no thoughts on the problem, but please be careful we don't want you or your little boy hurt. Jared

Yeah, I'm sure that was a disturbing discovery.

I used to be an electrician. Did you go and get a EKG? It can disrupt your heart rate, and it can stop 24 hours after the shock. I hope you are well and that it didn’t pass your heart. Happens to me once. Someone switched on the circuit I had marked as in progress. One painful shock made me kick away the ladder I was standing on... not fun!

Hi Andy,

I know the mis-wired appliance is serious and dangerous, but you made it a fun story.

Thanks for sharing.
