Willem Drees - Is the World Self-Organizing?

Are the laws of nature or physics blind in that they seek no direction and have no ‘purpose’? That’s the scientific paradigm. But the world works so well: from a very simple beginning, complexities and beauties have emerged. Some say that there are deep ‘organizing principles’ in the laws of nature such that complexities are natural and expected outcomes.

Willem Bernard Drees is professor of philosophy of the humanities at Tilburg University in the Netherlands.

Closer To Truth, hosted by Robert Lawrence Kuhn and directed by Peter Getzels, presents the world’s greatest thinkers exploring humanity’s deepest questions. Discover fundamental issues of existence. Engage new and diverse ways of thinking. Appreciate intense debates. Share your own opinions. Seek your own answers.

"Disorder" is a subjective, psychological assessment and conclusion. There are no violations of physics between order and disorder, only personal/subjective preferences. We live in an orderly Universe, whether one can see it or not.

I don’t think I heard one comment, not even a hint, about the question of a self-organizing world.

I've never seen "Media Offline" (at 3:37) before. I wonder what it is?

As a one person me it is always more pain in life than satisfaction. More disorder than order, difficulties, success, happiness, sorrow. Uncertainty just in basics.
Luckily, things also tend to sort themselves out with little effort.

Do any physicists speak of a feedback loop operating from forward in time back to the point of entanglement collapse? The feedback directs the collapes toward a future with the most probabilities. Multiverses may form but collapse as their probabilities for continuation are less than the main trunk.

The Universe is self-organizing, and there is a specific concrete physical mechanism that drives it. The mechanism is specifically obfuscated from our ability to perceive it however, once we are shown the way it is implemented and do finally see and realize it, we cannot unsee it. All will be revealed in a series of publications coming in 2024.

The world is self organized because, as above, so below we are reliving what we've once already created. We are going back to one.

Assuming anything is possible; the world self organized before it unfolded

To maintain its balance, the world has its defense mechanism capable of self-organizing driven by natural laws designed by our loving Almighty Creator....

...and the order/disorder (pleasure and pain) coming out of it are God-given hints that there is a better or worse place out there so for us to hopefully believe in a loving God for our souls'salvation...

By the way, whatever pain or disorder that this temporary physical world can give can never destroy our souls. Only losing faith or without faith in God can hurt our souls.

Have faith if you want to go Home..

It appears that Robert Kuhn's understanding of order is "nothing can hurt you"...

...but the reality says, "if nothing can hurt you, then you are out of order". 😊

humanity organizes itself with or without religion.

religion is not the fundamental unit of organization for human consciousness, but rather an emanation, or avatar of it.

If there wasn't a benevolent god offering hope of a better future, we would need to invent it. Oh, wait... never mind.

No fallacies of a suppressed correlative here.

Seems to me there is no order or disorder. There’s only random arrangements of stuff. Some arrangements are more probable than others.

To ask if the universe is self-organizing is to ask if the universe natural. To take the position that the universe is not self-organizing, it seems to me, is to assume that the universe, nature is unnatural.

Certainly religion did evolve out of an attempt by man to gain some control over his environment. Virgins were sacrificed to the volcano gods in order to placate them and hope they wouldn't erupt if pleased with the sacrifice. Do we really think religion still serves that role, although apparently in reverse, it's there to placate us? Yes, one is often a bit philosophical about why lightening strikes one person and not another. "It was their time..." so to speak. But is that really the role of religion? To the extent we look forward to an afterlife, I suppose it is.
I thought it was there to encourage us to establish a relationship with our Divine Father-friend, but then, what do I know? (I know my relationship with him is mighty fine! I've felt his love BIG TIME!)

Of course the universe is self organizing. No one exists to do it for the universe

Emergence and reductionism work in many places, but they never work there. where there is consciousness and languages. So, exhale, gentlemen materialists.

Disorder happens when orderly constructs collide. Like earthquakes and people.
