The updated California 6.1 offers 4 modifications: Beach Camper, Beach Tour, Coast, and the top-of-the-line Ocean. The entry level model seats up to 5 people, gets a stowable mini kitchen, and comes equipped with a manual pop-roof with a bed.

The modern RV market offers plenty of do-it-yourself conversion kits for vans, but the most intuitive use is offered by the California’s Happier Camper. In 2020 the in-house developed modular Adaptiv technology first used on the caravan trailers by the brand is being expanded onto the campervans.

It is not a coincidence that vans from the British and Japanese brands ended up together, both share the same French platform by the PSA Group and both are getting factory camper modifications for the 2021 model year.

A relatively new camper van conversion company from sunny Marina del Rey in California targets those customers who already own a suitable van and want to turn it into weekend camper. The brand’s range currently consists of two options: Weekender and Envy.

Available in regular and long wheelbase options, Ford Transit Custom Nugget has been developed in collaboration with RV specialist Westfalia. It offers a single layout for both sizes that differs only by the addition of the rear bathroom with a sink and a fixed toilet in LWB model.

After unveiling the new-gen Caddy earlier this year, VW decided not to keep us waiting for the updated Caddy California, which becomes the brand’s first camper based on the latest MQB platform.

Inspired by the golden age of VW campers, the Washington-based Caravan Outfitter initially developed small RVs on the basis of Nissan NV200 cargo van. In 2017, they released the current Free Bird camper, and two years later, introduced a larger Backroad model based on the Mercedes Metris passenger van.

It has been more than twenty years of the Mercedes Metris aka Vito van underpinning luxury mini campers outfitted by the subsidiary Westfalia.

Electric cars generally have more expensive entry costs than their gasoline counterparts, so logically, the same should be true for RVs. However, the British Sussex Campers have somehow managed to create a a model that still belongs on the list of the most affordable campers, regardless of the power source.

The list includes both American and European models, since I was going for the cheapest campervans on the market. What do you think about these RVs? Do they qualify for this list or do you know more affordable models? Don't hesitate to share them in the comments!

It's so important to be able to stand up in your RV. These flexible roofs solve the space problem. I converted my Windstar mini van with a full kitchen and storage, but skipped making a bed which would've taken up all my space. I just sleep on the floor in my sleeping bag on a memory foam mattress. If only the roof went up.

Which USAavailable midsize van has the highest ground clearance? The Toyota looks nice but the ground clearance for trailheads is too low. Any ideas? Ford city mini van is too small and lame for trailheads. I’m frustrated for sure searching for four years. Seems like they only design for soccer moms or urban flower shops.

Nice to see campers around the world. Here in US simple is best and self built campers abound. All unique in there own way. The VW wonder-lust lives on in homemade units.

No place for toilet. Love the size and price. Need more options. We made a camper from a town and country. Still looking-- love the pop up. And swivel front seats. A must

Great, economical with low fuel/gasoline usage because of their size. But I saw none had toilets or showers bathrooms so that's a negative for me. You can't always to go in nature at night or for safety reasons. Not for van life but pretty good for day trips or short weekends.

Such a shame they won’t be bringing the VW Ocean to the USA. I like the Recon version on the NV200, an economical platform with impressive mileage.

I really like #4, more compact and cute. How is financing for that one including the adaptations needed for camping in Canada?

Should've shown the westfalia keppler 1 for a vw conversion, far easily the best conversation if a vw transporter, that california was very poor in comparison!
