Gear skipping under load is at the very least annoying or possibly dangerous. But with these few tips your gears should be shifting as good as new after this video.

A lot of people have been asking me why only one gear slips, skips or jumps and the reason is either:
1. It needs a spacer in between the two cogs or a spacer in between the two cogs needs to be removed, or...
2. The derailleur hanger is bent.
3. Lube the chain.

Good video. Disappointed with a brand new bike...only 5 months old and skipping on the smallest cog at the back. Bike shop wants to charge me money to fix it. EDIT: Issue seems for me that several chain links had gone stiff. I hadn't oiled the chain since purchase 5 months ago. There were minor rust sections and raised links you could see from sideways. It was slipping mainly on the smallest cog I suppose because the smallest cog has the least surface area so when those seized and raised chain links went around it they just did not fit snug, whereas on the larger cogs with more surface area that wasn't so much a problem. I figured this out and fixed it myself before I had to go cap in hand to the bike shop. So...oil your chain kids.

Really helpful tutorial actually. Sadly my problem must be something else. It only skips in gear 7 for some reason. I think I just need a small spacer between 7th and 8th

Seeing that I have a new chain that my local bike repairer recommended. Also that that let me know that we saw the loose chain in time before any issues were transferred to the cassette, I'm going to have a look at my gear changing technique before addressing if the issue is about needing to adjust the rear derailleur gears. Cheers.

You gave me some great ideas that helped me, especially the stuck or stiff chainlink; that was my main problem.

Hi can you help me? I couldn't find a video about my problem, it my 3x7 speed bike, whenever I pedal it while Im on gear 4 on Cogs and Gear 2 on my chainring, it kinda skips not the kind of skip that the gears change from hi to low or vice versa but it kinda clucks and i somehow lose pedaling control.

Another common cause especially on SRAM is the derailleur chain gap or "b" screw
