No, Schools Do Not Have Litter Boxes For Students

A misinformation campaign claims that some school districts are providing litter boxes for students who identify as animals. The hoax has become a talking point for some Republican politicians. NBC’s Maura Barrett reports for Saturday TODAY.

This is dumb. In my experience they have kitty litter at schools to quickly soak up spills and vomit. I remember a kid threw up on a school bus and the bus driver used kitty litter to quickly clean it up.

From a FOIA request to this school. A board member's response to this talk: "I was going to ask if the bathroom remodel jobs include purchase of litter boxes, but I thought it might be too soon." (And by the way, he is running for the School Board again.)

And from the Superintendent: "We got rid of the ears and tails awhile ago. There were 5 students who wore "costume" type clothing. I talked to them all and they were great about it and did not continue. Not one staff member has ever witnessed a kid
barking or making other noises. I have heard things like this from parents before, but when I ask the kids they say their "friend" heard it or something along those lines."

Another fact. The January 21st headline came out as "Sharrow: There was never a litter box in an MPS bathroom." Then the next day January 22nd, the online headline changed to: "Sharrow: 'Furries' are not using litter boxes in Midland school's bathrooms." Why the change if the litter boxes didn't really exist?

Plus she said she heard a rumor, didn't say it was a fact. And by the way, there was information given to the parent group about the topic of the litter box and furries after this went viral. Perhaps honest journalism would help these days!

My friend is a 49 year old woman that works in a school and she told me there is litter boxes…. Also they can all wear hats and eat in class while the teacher is teaching and to me it almost seems like it’s a secret because everyone is denying it!
