For a concrete reno project, I used a mix of water and paint, rolled, sprayed, or brushed on all surfaces. Concrete was sticking even on ceiling.
No cracks in the past 5 years, enduring temperatures from -40 to +40. (outdoor garage in Canada)

Sounds like a PH problem. I learned to use Zinsser primer in my repair on glossy surfaces. I got to try mixing it with the patch next time.

I’ve never had a patch fall off the wall. I’ve only mixed water in mud

I sand the area to take the shine off the paint and then hot mud..never had a delamination

Never had any mud crack or break ever in my twenty years and I don’t even blame to be a professional drywaller. In fact I hate it every minute of it but it’s to easy to justify paying some extra metheads or still using metheads to do the work. Especially when no one anymore can do a real smooth finish. I was taught by a guy who was nicknamed wall. Because he was that good and that’s all he did. In his defense I remember an old boy that was nicknamed ceiling because he could do 1500 square feet of hanging ceiling a day by himself.

I do that but use wood glue that glue probably dos work well you can even use blue lid mud with glue added to tape

Apparently if you use urine it makes it set faster. That’s what they taught me on my first day, and the first day is when you learn all the old school tricks.

I found spitting on the wall first works just as well as glue
