It’s not called a stud. Studs are located in walls. It’s a joist.

wafer lightings needs at least 3 inches above for heat displacement away from joists, or you'll run the risk of a fire.

I’m looking for these and I like the plug in shown. But what ones are like that and don’t have a larger driver box? Or do they and that’s already up there? I’m working with a outdoor false ceiling kinda deal and only have 2”

Just drill the damn joist out to allow the wafers to suck right into place

Fkn MISLEADING & IGNORANT.

1) This isn't a stud, it's a joist.

2) If the joist covers 50% or more of your hole you cannot fix this pot light. The two spring-loaded clips on the pot light frame are sitting on its diameter, meaning to say if you drew a line between them you'd split the potlight in half. Those clips need enough clearance around them to pass into the ceiling and latch onto the drywall from the top. Therefore if your JOIST is covering almost 50% or more of the hole you drilled you can't mount that pot light up there. The pot light's recessed portion will fit in there easily but the housing that goes into the ceiling will not (because of those mounting clips).

Please be careful before you blindly follow this careless advice and plan your pot light locations in advance accordingly. If you are replacing an old light fixture that sits in the middle of a room and cannot/do not want to patch up your ceiling then consider other options.
