You were supposed to use the Area formula as a constraint and then the Perimeter of rectangle formula as an objective equation (including the given margins).

The answer in my textbook for this exact problem is 9x18

Eric...Can you show that the value for x is a min by taking second derivative to show it is + and thiu it is a min value .  Thx !

I am stuck on a problem like this, but I’m not even given the area of the inside square. How do I even go about solving this

I know how to do the math. I just don't understand the problem. Why is the 50 square inches in the inside of the paper? Shouldn't it be the total amount of paper used?
