That's actually genius. I had to wrestle with my assembly and made multiple attempts until I got the bolts to align properly.
These old timer mechanics sure know all the tricks of the trade.

The "F" marked on top means forward. That is the orientation. Stuck it up in there and start a couple nuts to hold it up for you, then you can rotate the strut into position easily by hand.
