Asha ~ Bird of paradise

I loved this song when it came out in the early 1980's, and I recorded it in 2011 on my album "O Great Spirit." My version is piano-based and more orchestral... the original contained Snowy White's beautiful soaring guitar.

For me it is a song about the elusive anima experience in a man's soul that takes him out beyond himself... it is about the inner feminine in a man. Sometimes the inner feeling finds an outer counterpart... someone who embodies that elusive feminine for him. For me, that is the figure of my muse, who lives in Budapest. Over 7 years we have taken each other higher... coming together and pulling apart again. I was offered a marvellous, most pertinent quote from Maya Angelou to insert at the last minute:

"A woman's heart must be so hidden in God that a man must find Him just to get to her."

And so I filmed for this in Budapest... a sacred city that takes me to my centre, in a particular spiritual community that connects me deeply to my soul. I found some great hidden locations, including the 'secret garden' I stumbled upon to sing the vocals, and saw some amazing things on that filming weekend, like the 'live' eagle by the statue.

Asha. What better way to while away the hours of lockdown than to revisit your back catalogue from its beginnings! My own spiritual journey started around the same time. Don't worry, I don't intend inflicting upon you my critique of each & every track! However, one exception, comparing your version of bird of paradise with the original, although subjective, I do prefer your keyboard accompaniment to the original guitar one, also your delivery wins it over for me. One other comment on a different track, the first time I heard 'love will heal your heart' I just didn't get it! as I was only familiar with spoken mantra's! After multiple plays it's now found its way into my memorable classics collection!
Next assignment is to listen to & possibly comment on album Serius. Can't wait!
