Statics - Two Force Member

Statics problems often include two force members. These are just pinned bars in which the end forces are aligned with the axis of the bars. I show you how two force members work and do an example problem.

I honestly think the videos for the core engineering classes (statics, dynamics, thermo, strength) are getting so good that a student who's motivated enough could just get a textbook and watch the videos, and understand as much or more than students taking these classes for credit.

You just explained a concept that took our professor three lectures to explain (poorly, I might add) in 10 minutes. Thank you so much for posting this material.

Great explanation! Simple and straight forward, my teacher was so boring that I slept through every lecture and therefore failed. So I'm following your videos now and they really helped me out. Thanks!

Great Statics videos! They really help my crammed study sessions when my professor isn't around!

Thank You Professor French! I wish I had a devoted professor back in my undergraduate years as you are!

Thank you so much for giving me some form of direction in the world of static equilibrium two force members.

Thanks! Dealing with a simple problem was very helpful to understand the concept.

joint B one force reaction y-axis, not x-axis

Prof, doesn't the 1000 N force cause a moment about point B ?

Doesnt the final answer tells us the member is in tension?

Is that "baleh", as in Farsi way of saying "yes" on the board? lol :D Anyways, I really found the video helpful. Thank you for explaining so clearly :) Mersi

a poor example of a straigtforward concept. if the force in 2_ is zero, the member is not necessary, and neither is joint 3. to me, when teaching fundamentals, the introduction of unnecessary components confuses the issue.
