Just finished watching Oppenheimer and wow am I glad I watched this beforehand. You will not leave the movie feeling like you learned something, rather you'll see the realities of modern politics. The film's timeline jumps all over the place, not teaching, but theatricalizing Oppenheimer's story. This video really helped me to piece together when certain events happen during the timeline and I left the theater way less confused than most people. An incredible video that really helped me enjoy seeing the new film.

Man, I feel terrible for Robert. I did a extensive project on the building of the atom bomb and more specifically Robert J. Oppenheimer. From my research he felt horrible for what he had discovered. After WW 2 he fell into deep depression and blamed himself for all the lives lost. An absolute 1 in a 1, 000, 000, 00 genius exploited for gain. Being a big historian buff, I pray before he died he was able to find peace in himself :/

every year that passes where a country refuses to fight another country for fear of nuclear war, Oppenheimer's legacy of ending the times of war grows stronger.

I knew that sooner or later that the Infographics Show would make a video on Oppenheimer.

I couldn’t imagine the pressure of living after creating destruction on another level.

Oppenheimer is legitimately the best scientist and humanitarian of all time. He pushed the bounds of science, he developed world changing technologies, he saw the results, and then he had the STONES to say....ok we need to not do that. And then lost almost everything by being a principled individual. He is a hero and should held as so. Great man.

My father was a graduate student at MIT and was asked to work on the military special weapons program at MIT. However shortly after joining the program his father (my grandfather) was forced to testify in front of the un-American committee by McCarthy and my father was dismissed from the program. He was basically forcer to drop out of MIT 1 credit short of his graduate degree in physics. The government can destroy people if they want to. I found out i have an FBI file too because of my grandfather!

I was watching an interview with him in it. The pain, sorrow, shame, and even pride that flicked though his face in micro expressions was like a gut punch. He truly felt horrible about his work on the Manhattan Project except on the 'theoretical' part. Like 'We did it, we did it!... Oh god... _what have I done_ ?'

If he didn't do it, someone else would have, very quickly.

The A-Bomb really had many, many fathers. It was a huge cooperative scientific and economic effort which summoned many, many great and brilliant minds.

A friend of mine, Ralph Bannano's father met Paul Tibbets on Tinian island just before he took off in the Enola Gay to bomb Hiroshima which carried the Atomic Bomb Little Boy which was the first nuclear weapon used in history and not long after Fat Man.

As a man who has stood at one point on both sides.
If it wasn’t japan, it could have been US. And our views towards him would have been completely different. It’s so easy to say things when you are the winner. It’s like the colonial guilt some have from being an american. It could have been MUCH much worse. I hope Robert is resting easy.

The implosion device was called "Fat Man", "Little Boy" was the gun-type dropped on Hiroshima. "Thin Man" was a variant of the gun-type.

I slight correction. Little Boy was a Uranium gun-type bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima. Thin-Man was also a gun-type design that was to use Plutonium, but due to the fact that the reactor produced Plutonium 239 had a small quantity of an even more fissionable isotope of Plutonium 240. The due to the Pu 240 contamination, a gun type could spontaneously detonate as it was assembled.
